The Field Application Scientist (FAS) will provide scientific expertise, applications support and training to customers on Thermo Fisher Scientific's Invitrogen imaging and detection instruments through a variety of interfaces. This may include in-person, phone, remote and/or email communications. They will partner with sales reps in the field to deliver product line specific pre- and post-sales related customer support activities and address customer issues successfully. Also acts as a trusted authority to our customers, thereby growing customer happiness and loyalty and supplying to the overall success of the business.



Territory: There are two potential locations. First is in the New York, NY area covering the region from New York City to Washington DC. The second potential location is Houston with the geography of responsibility is the central southern core of the United States (states covered include: TX, OK, AR, LA, and NM) - up to 60% travel and the ideal candidate will reside in Texas (Houston, Dallas, Austin), or New York city. There is one position posted in multiple locations.



Training - Internal & External



  • Provide field support to our sales organization by providing customers with technical mentorship (pre & post sales activities).

  • Provide internal training across commercial teams and business units as needed.

  • Work with Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) and establish relationships through routine scientific communication and updates on new product launches.

  • Collaborate with the global technical training teams and share processes across the organization.


Voice of Customer (VOC) & Customer Relations Management



As a Field Applications Scientist, you will act as liaison between customers, R&D, and Product Management teams, attend national conferences and events to observe developing market trends and present on behalf of Thermo Fisher Scientific at key global conferences.



Business Development



  • Provide market sensing mechanism, identifying new opportunities and highlighting gaps in current portfolio.

  • Collaborate with R&D and PM teams.

  • Support internal business and product development efforts through feedback on innovation pipeline.

  • Stays current on scientific and industry trends and innovations.


Minimum Requirements:



  • BA or BS in Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biophysics, or related scientific field

  • proven experience working with imaging experiments - knowledge of how to set up and troubleshoot experiments (deep knowledge of sample preparation, acquisition and accurate controls)

  • Validated experienced knowledge with imaging instruments - must know how to set-up, troubleshoot experiments.

  • Able to resolve practical problems in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.

  • Able to work from a remote home office with travel up to 60%

  • Valid Driver's license is required.

  • Most duties are performed at field locations which may require walking within customer facilities, standing while giving presentations or conducting meetings and sitting to complete reports and sales calls.

  • Demonstrations and installations may require moving equipment and manual dexterity and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • PhD is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working in an imaging facility.

  • 3 or more years of laboratory working with high-end imaging.

  • Experience with the EVOS, Varioskan and/or iBright.

  • Strong experience with Spatial Proteomics.

  • Experience in a customer-facing role and/or providing technical and scientific presentations to a variety of audiences.

The starting salary for this position is $80,000-90,000 annually, depending on location and level of experience.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $66,000.00-$99,000.00.
