Description:


The Colby College Department of Music invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position in Piano Performance for the 2025-2026 academic year (0.8 FTE position), with a possibility of renewal for a second year (AY 2026-2027). The successful candidate will join a small, collegial, and active department and will have the following teaching and departmental responsibilities:


- Coordinate all piano studies, including: audition all new piano students each semester and make teacher assignments; attend and adjudicate recitals and juries for students of other piano instructors; adjudicate departmental auditions, juries and recitals; evaluate music supplements of prospective piano students; correspond and meet with and give demo lessons (optional) to prospective students; host masterclasses (if applicable); assess piano maintenance/tuning needs and coordinate work with the piano technician.


- Teach 18 hours of lessons per week, which includes 15-16 hours of individual piano lessons plus 2 - 3 hours of chamber ensemble coaching sessions; prepare students for senior recitals, department and studio recitals, and juries; organize 4-6 piano workshops for students per semester; and sponsor students in senior recitals, the annual concerto competition, and, if applicable, off-campus performances.




Qualifications:


The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their performance and teaching, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community, particularly those with a record of previous college teaching. Completed DMA/PhD or equivalent professional experience preferred.
