Business Professional Recruiting Manager
The Business Professional Recruiting Manager is responsible for the management of recruiting and staffing functions for exempt and non-exempt Business Professional job openings for all U.S. Katten offices in collaboration with the local Human Resources Manager (contingent on the search). Essential duties are performed personally or through delegation/supervision of subordinates. Work is of a highly confidential nature. The Business Professional Recruiting Manager maintains professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and firm matters.
Katten offers a hybrid work model, allowing the flexibility to work both on-site and remotely on a regular basis (KattenFlex). This position may be located in either our Chicago or New York office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following. Other duties may be requested and/or assigned. Oversee and administer the recruitment and selection process for all non-legal exempt, non-exempt, and temporary Business Professional positions.
Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract top talent for all Business Professional positions. Ensure recruiting and hiring practices are in compliance with government regulations and firm policies and procedures in the pre-screening and post-employment process. Partner with hiring managers to ensure job requirements and expectations are clearly understood and candidates are assessed against the job specifications and minimum requirements. Create and/or modify position descriptions to include necessary job duties, responsibilities, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in applicant tracking system and ensure compliance with all legal requirements. Provide analytical and well documented recruiting reports to hiring manager.
Analyze recruitment data and trends to identify opportunities for process improvement and enhance recruiting efforts.
Recruit qualified candidates for positions through sourcing, employee referrals, job postings, associations, LinkedIn Recruiter, social media sites, and other recruiting resources. Utilize outside recruiting resources in most efficient/cost effective manner, when necessary.
Develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with staffing agencies. Negotiate service agreements and placement fees with recruiters, execute agreements, and store the agreements internally (iManage).
Oversee scheduling and coordination of interviews via phone, Zoom, or in-person for hiring managers and coordinate candidate testing, if applicable.
Provide information to candidates during the interview process that includes job duties, responsibilities, compensation, hours, work conditions, firm policies, KattenFlex requirements, and other related information.
Manage the background screening processes at the firm and maintains relationship with background screening provider. Initiate background screenings for business professionals and review background reports to ensure they meet requirements established by the firm.
Approve selection of candidates, create offer letter that includes job duties, compensation, benefits, and background requirements, and present offer to applicant.
Negotiate terms in offer letters and rescind offers, when required.
Enter new hire information into the HRIS system and update information in other systems/databases, as required.
Partner with the Business Professional Recruiting Specialist and internal departments to create new hire orientation and ensure smooth onboarding experience.
Manage the Internal Posting and Employee Referral Program for all offices assuring program integrity is maintained.
Assist with the affirmative action compliance process at the firm for Business Professional recruiting. Partner with third party to review affirmative action plan and best practices.
Create and monitor budget for Business Professional recruiting.
Coordinate with Human Resources Manager when notified of employee terminations.
Perform other duties, as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises and manages employees and is responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the firm’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and making recommendations for hiring, promotion, compensation, and termination.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business, or equivalent and five or more years progressive staff recruitment/employment experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have excellent interviewing skills. Prior experience preferably in a large legal or professional services firm.
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of recruitment/employment administration and regulations is required, as well as familiarity with applicable state/federal employment and labor laws and governmental compliance requirements.
Knowledge and experience of integrating social media recruiting into searches.
Computer proficient with experience and working knowledge of applicant tracking system (ATS), Excel, Outlook, MS Word, and LinkedIn Recruiter.
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy, efficiently follow written and verbal instructions, provide information, and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff, candidates, interns, and outside contacts.

Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills requiring an aptitude for detail, precision, and logic with comprehensive knowledge of recruitment/employment principles and practices in order to analyze and administer the non-legal recruitment process.
Ability to evaluate skill levels of personnel to determine proper assignment placements. Ability to work discreetly with confidential information and situations and respond to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Exhibit high degree of initiative in exercising independent judgment and making decisions in managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment. Proactive with excellent troubleshooting, problem resolution, and follow-through skills.
Excellent organizational skills including record keeping, data collection, and system information. Ability to compile and analyze data and furnish concise, detailed information in report format, written correspondence, e‑mail, or verbally.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct the work of subordinate staff engaged in various professional, technical, and clerical functions.
Ability to perform detailed mathematical calculations and apply complex mathematical concepts when computing, reconciling balances, verifying calculations on forms and documents, and preparing and compiling statistical data on various human resources, recruiting, and budget reports.
Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute files, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
Occasional travel to other firm locations may be required.
In our New York office, the annualized salary range for this position is $120,000 to $150,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
