FS Depot has an immediate opening for a Senior Buyer based at our University Park, Illinois facility. The Senior Buyer will be responsible for the coordination and execution of activities involved in the sourcing and daily tactical management for the components related to assigned Supplier/Categories.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Meet with manufacturer plants regularly to discuss product/parts changes.


• Support Inventory and Procurement management in the Supplier and Parts Evaluation process by providing first-hand knowledge of the suppliers delivery, quality, capabilities and service level.


• Daily management of product categories by assigned supplier including processing, expediting, entering and maintaining MRP messages for all purchase orders.


• Research and work cross functionally to investigate ways to improve replenishment and supply chain processes, practices and accuracy.


• Develop the most suitable procurement and replenishment arrangements for product categories, including blanket orders, spot purchase orders, supplier stocking agreements, forecasting, VMI management, Kanban, etc.


• Monitor and evaluate vendor performance including establishing vendor KPIs: Resolve supplier delivery problems contributing to back orders and stock outs. Be proactive as opposed to reactive in preventing shortages.


• Assist in the development, implementation and reporting on key performance metrics affecting area of responsibility including those of daily functions of junior buyers.


• Support, implement and develop cost reduction plans for assigned product categories and suppliers, including negotiations, quoting supplier consolidations and long-term agreements/contracts.


• Keep inventory investment and inventory losses at a practical minimum. Achieve a reasonable balance between the level of inventory required to support selling demand and the cost of carrying inventory.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Procurement, Supply Chain or related field preferred or equivalent work experience in procurement in a manufacturing or supply chain environment required. 


• APICS or CPSM certifications preferred.


• 5-8 years of related procurement experience including purchasing, inventory control, contract negotiation, supplier relationships and inventory planning.


• Working knowledge of ERP (JDE preferred) and supply chain processes.


• Strong understanding of demand forecasting and inventory management.


• Analytical and complex problem-solving skills with continuous improvement orientation.


• Excellent verbal and written communication, listening and presentation skills.


• Self-starter with initiative, ability to act and function independently with minimal supervision.


• High level of interpersonal skills to work within team environment.


• Strong negotiation skills.


• Intermediate to advanced computer skills. Proficient with MS Excel and other work-related software.


• Working knowledge of ISO standards. 


• Foresight, objectivity, strategic-planning, and prioritization skills.
