About the Department
The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies. Within the section of hematology/oncology, the Szmulewitz laboratory is a translational research laboratory focused on therapy-resistant prostate cancer. The overall goal of the laboratory is to uncover novel targetable pathways leading to resistant progression. Several projects include targeting resistance to hormonal therapies in prostate cancer, novel theranostics in prostate cancer, and prostate cancer therapy biomarkers. The laboratory uses preclinical prostate cancer models, including in vivo model systems, as well as interrogation of patient-derived specimen.
Job Summary
The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for conducting collaborative and independent research experiments under the supervision of the PI and senior staff scientist(s), will be globally responsible for management and uptake of the laboratory space, and be point of contact for oversight and training of new research specialists.
Responsibilities
Manage independent/collaborative research experiments.
Support entirety of laboratory research enterprise through maintenance of cell cultures, animal protocols, consumable reagents; validation of new analytical tests and techniques for the lab.
Manage mice housed post experimentation: tracking for general wellness of animals, measurement of tumors, weights, etc.
Coordinate all laboratory purchasing and inventory.
Instruct new personnel including technologists, residents, medical students, and fellows, and others individuals in a broad range of applications including immunoblots, cell viability assays, ChIP and IP, RNA-seq library preparation, cell line transfection/infection and others.
Coordination of laboratory on-site inspections and maintenance.
Solves complex problems relating to the administration of projects, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making significant contributions to methodology.
Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Works independently to assist with project design.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
