Position Summary

The assistant athletic director for equipment is responsible for the oversight and management of the daily operation of Rice Athletics' equipment operations, laundry services, inventory management, and equipment safety protocol. This position manages the department's athletic promo accounts, is a primary liaison with equipment and apparel vendors, and responsible for the issuance and maintenance of athletic equipment for 16 intercollegiate sports and approximately 400 student-athletes. This person has oversight of both full time staff, hourly workers, and student workers, the equipment budgets for assigned programs, and other operational responsibilities as assigned by the Head Football Coach and/or Director of Athletics or designee.

Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 4 years of related experience
  • Experience supervising employees


Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and able to interact at all levels of a complex university organization while maintaining high degree of confidentiality
  • Must have proficiency in all forms of computer skills
  • Experience working with budgets, writing, editing, publishing newsletters, and creating master calendars for an athletic program
  • Advanced knowledge of NCAA Rules and Regulations


Essential Functions

  • Provides supervision and administrative oversight for assigned areas and program(s)
  • Provides oversight for assigned budgets and oversees the repair and replacement schedules of assigned facilities
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels to carry out assigned duties across equipment operations needs within the Athletic Department
  • Manages staffing and operations budgets in the aforementioned programs / units and continues to develop strategies to maximize resources and performance
  • Collaborates with the Director of Athletics and the head coaches to set department policies and goals related to student athlete safety
  • Performs all other duties as assigned


Preferences

  • Advanced degree
  • 8 years of related experience
  • Prior experience as a sport administrator and/or supervising head coaches
