Clinical Professional Development – Facility/Service Line Support – This position will be based at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.


Promote Carilion's Mission and Vision through Education, Role Development, Collaborative Partnerships, Inquiry, Onboarding and Orientation, and Competency Management.

Responsible for clinical and non-clinical staff training and continuous education within a healthcare setting. This role involves implementing educational programs, assessing staff learning needs, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and evaluating the effectiveness of training initiatives. By doing so, the Clinical Educator ensures that staff are well-prepared, knowledgeable, and up-to-date with the latest practices and technologies in healthcare, ultimately contributing to improved patient care and outcomes.

Develop Educational Programs:
Design and develop educational materials, including brochures, presentations, and online content, tailored to diverse audiences.
Create and implement training programs for healthcare professionals.

Conduct Training and Workshops:
Facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions on various health topics.

Evaluate Educational Needs:
Assess the educational needs of different populations through surveys, focus groups, and other assessment tools.
Customize educational programs based on the specific needs and preferences of the target audience.

Promote Health Literacy:
Work to improve health literacy by creating clear and accessible educational materials.


Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals:
Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to identify educational needs and develop relevant content.
Provide support and resources to healthcare professionals to enhance their teaching and patient communication skills.

Monitor and Evaluate Program Effectiveness:
Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and make necessary adjustments based on feedback and outcomes.
Prepare reports and documentation on program performance and impact.

Stay Current with Healthcare Trends:
Keep up-to-date with the latest developments in healthcare, medical research, and educational techniques.
Integrate new information and best practices into educational programs.

Engage with the Community:
Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and other stakeholders to promote health education initiatives.

What We Require:


Education: A bachelor's degree in nursing required. A Master's degree or certification (e.g., Nursing Professional Development – NPD-BC, Certified Health Education Specialist - CHES) is preferred.

Skills: Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to simplify complex information, proficiency in using educational technologies and tools, and excellent organizational skills.

Knowledge: Understanding of adult learning principles, health literacy, and current healthcare trends and practices.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field is required. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team. · Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with diverse populations. · Flexibility to adapt educational materials and approaches to meet varying needs. Critical Care Nursing experience preferred.

Previous experience in health education, patient education, or a related field is required. Experience in developing and delivering educational programs is highly desirable.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: AHA BLS-HCP required. May be required to obtain/maintain additional certifications based on specific work units.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Meets standards on Performance Appraisal, including competency validation as appropriate for the level of care. Demonstrates effective communication and strong organizational skills. Desires to work with new employees. Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills are required. Strong critical thinking, conflict resolution, organization, and effective judgment abilities are required.
