SUMMARY

Responsible for purchased and outsourced material planning process from receipt of buy plan to interaction with Sales/Engineering/Contracts/Manufacturing and placement of purchase order with vendors. Provides support after purchase to production and management as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives initial requisition; review particular specifications and requirements with involved engineering or manufacturing personnel to make certain quantity and quality meet job-manufacturing expectations
  • Chooses and negotiates best vendor terms, pricing and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements.
  • Monitors computer system demands and expedite open orders.
  • Interacts with and notifies all interested parties of updated status on delivery expectations and deadlines.
  • Establish principled supplier relationships that ensure best price and delivery.
  • Receives and interviews vendor representatives to discuss matters of mutual interest such as resolving discrepancies and monitoring delayed shipments.
  • Regularly updates records of suppliers' products as well as any improvements they report that might make their goods more acceptable to Merrick.
  • Monitors vendor performances as it applies to the Merrick purchasing procedure and Third Party Risk Management Program (TPRMP). Publishes results of the program and recommend changes to procedures and policies to enhance the vendor program.
  • Maintains and monitors off-site inventory and manufacturing. Apply cost savings and avoidances. Report cost savings to Supervisor. Handles rejects in a timely fashion.
  • Continually updates debit memos and credits with accounting.
  • Takes the responsibility for the blanket purchase order program ensuring proper and timely contract negotiation and renewal.

Requirements:

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Accountable for all concerns within their scope of work and has the absolute responsibility to rectify and communicate any issue to managers, supervisors, safety or environmental managers as appropriate.
  • Follow all safe work practices, watch out for fellow workers, and ensure the purchasing area remains compliant regarding hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste and universal waste.
  • The following personal protection equipment is required and must be worn while working in the manufacturing facility, vendors or customers' facilities:
  1. Company approved safety glasses or goggles.
  2. Company approved steel or ESD toe shoes when working outside the safety aisles.
  3. Appropriate hand protection, clothing and ear protection in designated areas.
  4. Other safety equipment as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Business and a minimum of one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Advanced blueprint reading required, ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area, circumference, and Volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE SKILLS: Computer literacy with good skills in Microsoft Office and Visual Manufacturing Software.
  • EQUIPMENT: Computer and other general office equipment.
  • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None required.
