Position Summary
The Chemical Engineer position will provide support to Department of Defense (DoD) and (United States Government) USG sponsors over a capability area centered on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) related aspects of chemical defense. This position will provide direct support for countering weapons of mass destruction (CWMD) research programs. Responsibilities will include laboratory, technical, and programmatic support of projects focused across multiple aspects of chemical defense including chemical detection, protection, decontamination, and mitigation while directly collaborating with NSRI staff and other entities within the CWMD community. Primary place of duty will be Annapolis Junction, MD. Occasional travel (up to 10%) may be required depending on operational tempo and project status.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate chemical defense test bed systems
Provide technical expertise to project leads on chemical defense related projects
Lead chemical defense related efforts
Provide field test support for product evaluations
Provide weekly project status updates to supervisor and USG sponsor
Collaborate directly with team members, project sponsors and stakeholders to develop and execute project plans, timelines, and strategies to facilitate successful completion of project goals
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or biochemistry from an accredited university or college
5+ years experience chemical test bed design, operations and maintenance
Excellent written and oral skills
Excellent organizations skills and record-keeping
Experienced in working as part of a multi-functional team in a chemical laboratory
This position requires the individual to be a U.S. citizen and must be able to obtain and maintain U.S. government security clearance eligibility.
Desired Qualifications
Advanced degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, biochemistry, or project management
Experienced with mechanical design and prototyping
Prior experience in Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) research
