JOB DESCRIPTION:

Summary/Objective
The Trade Compliance Intern will support the trade compliance team in ensuring that all export and import activities comply with local, regional, and global regulations. This role involves assisting with documentation, data analysis, and communication with international customers, suppliers and internal teams. The intern will gain hands-on experience in trade compliance, logistics, and order management.

Essential Functions

  • Data Collection and Documentation:
    • Collect and maintain specific data and information for goods to be shipped.
    • Complete necessary export and transport documents to ensure compliance with regulations.
    • Verify export trade information and input data into the system as needed.
    • Assist personnel at other facilities in preparing export documents when needed.
  • Communication and Coordination:
    • Communicate with international customers to clarify customs issues.
    • Coordinate with forwarders to organize shipping details.
    • Monitor and audit international shipments.
  • Compliance and Analysis:
    • Assist and support the functional leads with the ongoing development of the trade compliance program.
    • Assist with commodity classifications under exportation and importation laws (EAR, Schedule B, HTS codes).
    • Perform export documentation reviews pre- and post-shipment to ensure all regulatory classifications are correct.
    • Analyze and maintain data from SAP, TradeFlow, ACE, and other compliance-related information systems.
  • Support and Auditing:
    • Review and organize entry packages, ensuring safe retention of necessary customs documents and destruction of documents outside the required period.
    • Assist, as needed, in writing user documentation, instructions, and procedures, particularly regarding logistic processes and US Customs compliance requirements.
  • Logistics and Cost Savings:
    • Participate in cost savings activities for trade compliance and logistics.
    • Assist with correction of freight invoice errors, routing issues, and loss & damage freight claims with carriers and freight forwarders.
  • Other Duties:
    • Comply with quality, product safety, and HSE rules and regulations.
    • Understand and adhere to all relevant statutory or regulatory compliance obligations.
    • Support and adhere to the Integrated Management System policies, procedures, and instructions.
    • Understand and support relevant key performance indicators (KPIs).

Skills and Competencies:

    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Familiarity with SAP, TradeFlow, ACE, or similar compliance-related information systems is a plus.

Required Education and Experience
Currently pursuing a degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.

GPA 3.0 or higher
