This position shall provide recently hired transit police officers with training established in the field training manual. The position also functions as a front-line supervisor and assists in decision making and completing reports as outlined in the division’s Policies and Procedures Manual. This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules and regulations of the RTD Drug and Alcohol Policy and is an armed sworn position under CRS 16-2.5-146.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL: 


  • Performs required functions of field assignments.

  • Serves in the role of field instructor, following protocols and procedures outlined in the Police Training Program.

  • Completes daily observation reports for officers in the field training program and presents the summation of the officers’ performance to management.

  • Responds to calls for police service when the incident necessitates the presence of management.

  • Reviews incident reports involving employees; investigates and resolves incidents; prepares written responses.

  • Serves as an acting sergeant, on an as needed basis.

OTHER:

  • All job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, management, criminal justice or related field preferred.

  • A minimum of two years of full-time post certified experience in law enforcement with a city police department or street patrol experience with a sheriff’s department or one-year of continued experience as a Regional Transportation District police officer. Candidates must have successfully completed the RTD field training program.

  • Current license and certification through Colorado P.O.S.T. (Peace Officer Standards and Training).

  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in the criminal justice system; including federal, state, and local law enforcement regulations.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to use sound judgment and maintain the strictest confidentiality.

  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including afternoon and overnight shifts, weekends and holidays.

Pay Range:

$71,043.00 - $100,348.50 Annual
