About The Role:
As an Underwriter at Veterans United, you'll be a key part of helping Veterans and military families achieve the dream of homeownership. In this role, you'll bring your underwriting expertise to the table to help underwrite a variety of loans. We'll provide training and development opportunities to gain experience with new loan types to help support our borrowers in their homebuying journey. This includes VA loans for purchases, refinances, and IRRRLs, with options for fixed or adjustable-rate mortgages, and may include non-VA products such as FHA, USDA, Conventional, and Bond loans. You'll underwrite loans up to $1.5 million and work with a diverse range of borrowers, including active military, W2 wage earners, and self-employed individuals. You'll analyze loans supported by Automated Underwriting Systems (Approve/Eligible or Manual/Refer) and conduct comprehensive credit and collateral reviews. Through a combination of training modules and testing, you'll gain the skills and confidence to succeed, even in complex situations.

Taking ownership of your assigned loan files by handling all processing and underwriting tasks with precision and care-it's all about getting it right for our customers.
Reviewing documents and decisions carefully to ensure everything meets guidelines, and if something needs fixing, you're quick to address audits, compliance checks, or investor reviews.
Thinking outside the box to recommend alternative loan structures that can help find the perfect financing solution for our borrowers.
Keep learning and growing by staying current on company and industry guidelines through ongoing education and training.
Tackling any adjustments needed for files that come back from closing, making sure they're set up for success.
Being a team player by sharing helpful feedback on common mistakes and "want" conditions to help everyone grow stronger together.
Pitching in wherever needed (excluding licensed tasks) and help foster a supportive and collaborative team culture.
