Job Description:

As part of the continued growth and innovation of our Impact Assessment & Planning service offering, ERM has an opportunity for an experienced environmental planner to join our thriving global consulting firm as a Project Land Planner in Northern California (Walnut Creek or Sacramento offices). The ideal candidate will have experience conducting environmental impact, planning, and permitting efforts with California utilities. We seek an individual to support an ongoing contract with a large California utility to support their Vegetation Management operations and maintenance activities

ERM’s Impact Assessment & Planning (IAP) team focuses on supporting development of projects in the power, technology, oil and gas, mining, chemical, transport, and infrastructure sectors. Our goal is always the same: assisting our clients in achieving project success, from planning through construction and operation, while minimizing sustainability risks and maximizing project speed and adaptability.

ERM’s IAP service offering has been ERM’s highest growth area globally, growing over 20% per year for the past 5 years.  You will become part of a vibrant technical community with more than 1,000 IAP professionals globally, representing the full range of technical disciplines, with sector experience across the board.  What ERM’s team is best known for is supporting some of the most challenging development projects in the world.  It is this reputation that attracts and retains the highly skilled consultants who comprise ERM’s Impact Assessment & Planning team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Serve as the Contract Environmental Lead assisting with coordination and tracking to completion of project reviews and permitting under CA regulatory permitting agencies such as United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, CA State Parks, National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, CA Department of Fish and Wildlife, CA Coastal Zone, etc.

  • Review project details for completeness and accuracy.

  • Coordinate with client lead when land ownership is not clear.

  • Request determination of rights from client, as needed.

  • Develop comprehensive project descriptions and ensure consistency across deliverables.

  • Assign appropriate agency reviews, mapping needs and due dates according to client guidance and programmatic permits.

  • Identify and communicate schedule delays and constraints to the client lead.

  • Lead internal and external status meetings.

  • Complete permit notifications for programmatic permit projects using project details along with results from agency review deliverables.

  • Prepare draft agency notifications for permit applications for non-programmatic agency land projects.

  • Prepare a construction guidance document catered to Utility contract tree crews that catalogs work-specific permits, agreements, and other environmental requirements.

  • Coordinate post impact assessments for emergency work or work performed prior to release to construction.

  • Drive innovation within the Impact Assessment and Planning service offering to stay ahead of client needs and to differentiate ERM in the market. 

  • Meet business health & safety performance standards, financial targets, overall project budgets and schedules, client satisfaction/expectations, and internal risk management and contractual requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • BA or BS in environmental planning, biology, environmental science or related field. Master’s degree is desirable but not required.

  • 0-2 years of consulting experience with CEQA review and CA natural resource regulatory agency permitting, including experience with the electric/gas transmission and generation markets in California. 

  • Technical competency in environmental permitting and planning.

  • At a minimum, general knowledge of biology, environmental compliance, cultural resources, water quality, air quality and hazardous materials.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Positive outlook, collaborative, and driven by the success of ERM as a global company. 

  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.

For the Consulting Senior Associate, Land Planning (Entry Level) position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $68,640 – $70,725 (USD).  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
