Job Summary

During the academic year, Upward Bound offers English and Language Arts Instruction for students in the Saturday College Program, which begins Saturday, October 19, 2024, and continues through Saturday, March 22, 2025, with a daily schedule of 9 am-3 pm on Saturdays.


Clayton County Upward Bound Programs is currently seeking a highly motivated, knowledgeable, creative, engaging, student-focused, experienced educator to teach our Literature & Composition Course that provides our students with the appropriate skill acquisition in writing and language arts. This course IS NOT intended for instruction ONLY in one area of language arts (i.e. Grammar, Writing, Literature, etc.), but a course that helps students strengthen their comprehension and skill development needed to be successful in areas related to the language arts based on their skill level assessments. This position requires someone who has passion, innovation, and knowledge to assist students with proper sentence structure, speaking skills through class presentations, and persuasive essay writing based on the Georgia State Content Standards while motivating and challenging high school students. We seek an instructor who can develop a strong curriculum that addresses students¿ needs, interests, abilities, and curiosities about race, class, gender, multiculturalism, and social justice issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in the Language Arts topics that may include Grammar, Writing, Literature and Composition.

  • Create a culminating project that requires each student to present a concept discussed in the course (Oral/Visual presentation).

  • Establish classroom management policies and procedures needed to maintain a productive, conducive, classroom environment.

  • Work with Upward Bound staff to integrate special subject lessons and activities with core academic curriculum.

  • Participate in Upward Bound teacher staff meetings.

  • Attend teacher orientation/planning session(s), program activities, & final teacher evaluation closing session.

  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in English, Language Arts, Education, or relevant Major, and at least 2 years full-time teaching experience.

  • Minimum 2 years' experience teaching in related subjects. Minimum 2 years direct working relationship/or teaching low-income, first-generation college-bound students.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred candidate holds a master's degree in English, Education, or a similar Major/ or Teaching Credential or working towards a master's degree in English, Language Arts, or a relevant Major.

Proposed Salary

19/hour, $25/hour
