Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
Position Summary The Employer Engagement Manager (EM) in the School of Business Career Center at Portland State University (PSU) is a key relationship builder who manages strategic partnerships with local, regional, and national organizations to enhance career and internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate business students.
PSU is an access institution with the vision and history of being a national leader for social mobility through higher education and a model for serving minoritized learners. The person in this role will bring an equity and inclusion lens to their work to be a champion for PSU students and ensure that company relationships facilitate experiential learning and career success for all business students.
Key Responsibilities:
Employer Engagement & Relationship Management
  • Develop and maintain relationships with company partners, including recruiters, hiring managers, and alumni, to expand job and internship opportunities.
  • Serve as a consultant to companies on strategic recruitment practices, equitable hiring, and effectively engaging with PSU’s diverse student population.
  • Design and execute external outreach strategies, including an annual priority list and partnership development plans.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to organize events such as career panels, mock interviews, mentorship programs, and company site visits.

Systems, Data Management & Reporting
  • Oversee the management of relationship management systems (e.g., Copper CRM & Handshake).
  • Track, analyze, and present data related to employer engagement and student career outcomes.
  • Provide data and insights to support accreditation, rankings, and departmental strategic initiatives.
  • Develop resources and materials for employer engagement, including website content, guides, and event handbooks.

Equity & Inclusion
  • Champion inclusive hiring practices by consulting with companies and creating engagement opportunities for underrepresented students.
  • Participate in DEI training and incorporate best practices to address barriers and promote equitable employment outcomes for PSU students.

Collaboration with Campus Stakeholders
  • Partner with faculty, staff, and student organizations to align employer engagement efforts with students’ academic and professional goals.
  • Act as a liaison between employers and the PSU community, ensuring seamless coordination of career opportunities

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS with 3+ years of related experience
  • Experience developing and managing relationships, including outreach to build new long-term partnerships, keeping key stakeholders engaged, and achieving mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated history of collaborating in teams, which includes contributing to problem-solving and building consensus to achieve shared goals.
  • Project management expertise, with experience leading, prioritizing, and executing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and goals.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present ideas clearly and concisely, tailor messages to different audiences, and influence key stakeholders through effective persuasion and negotiation.
  • Experience working with racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of college majors, career development, job market (particularly Portland), labor market trends, internship/employment best practices, and recruitment activities
  • Knowledge of professional development needs for undergraduate and graduate business students, with a particular focus on the needs of students who are first-generation college students (aka first-to-college populations)
  • Experience working with others to plan and coordinate events
  • Experience working directly with employers and college students engaging in recruitment activities

Work Days/Hours Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week. A minimum of 3 full days in person. Exact schedule will be determined with supervisor.
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity. The starting annual salary for this position will between $59,000 – $63,000.
