Position Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Financial Support Specialist, who could also be seen as having the functions of a teller or a clerk. This position performs various moderately complex tasks to provide financial support to the assigned area. Departments may provide additional guidance with a departmental position description.

This role works with students and operates a front counter where they ask questions about their accounts and collect funds to cover them. You will also be charged with going to a bank and making deposits. Deposit preparation will be included as well.

You should have:


  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is required.
  • FMS, HRMS, and/or Campus Solutions training with a passing score may be required.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • 6 months of previous cashier experience, including basic cashiering functions and cash management duties.

This employee will be paid hourly and classified as non-exempt. It is full-time and will be located in the University Center Tower building in the heart of the Texas Medical Center. It is central to all bus and rail lines on Metro. It qualifies for all benefits from UTHealth, including outstanding healthcare options and a pension plan run by the State of Texas.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Maintains, reconciles, and researches accounts, financial records, and/or reports.
  • Prepares, reviews, and/or approves financial entries and support documents.
  • Prepares and validates source documents and/or bank deposits
  • Resolves moderately complex accounting matters and account inquiries.
  • Communicates, verbally and in writing, and interacts with a range of department constituents, which may include students, other UTHSC staff, agencies, vendors, UT System, and/or others regarding departmental matters, including financial information and documentation.
  • Demonstrates understanding and applying University and Government Policies and Procedures to job duties.
  • Maintains and coordinates the storage and retrieval of records and documentation.
  • Assists with the preparation of annual financial reports.
  • Compiles data from reports using required knowledge of departmental, project, and/or university policies and procedures.
  • Handles confidential information and sensitive issues.
  • May train entry-level financial support staff.
  • Advises on policy and processes as assigned by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Certification/Skills:

    Minimum Education:

    High School diploma or equivalent. An associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.

    Minimum Experience:

    Three (3) years of general office experience; Four years of related work experience in some form of accounting or finance preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
