The Continuing Education Coordinator plays a crucial role in enhancing the professional skills of University Police employees. This position involves assessing, designing, and delivering employee development programs. The coordinator is responsible for organizing and overseeing training initiatives at the University of Texas Police at Houston, ensuring that both administrative and technical skills are advanced. Key duties include maintaining training records, providing both entry-level and in-service training in classroom and field settings, and planning, organizing, and evaluating training programs. Additionally, the coordinator ensures that training and instruction are conducted by qualified personnel.

Position Summary:

Coordinates education outreach offerings which include managing the application process, certification requirements, and educational content.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Assists with production and management of education programs and products.
  • Assists in the development of modules for the continuing education programs.
  • Develops content of curriculum and ensures content of modules is organized, formatted, and accurate.
  • Identifies and secures speakers and presenters. Arranges venues, coordinates printed media and advertising.
  • Applies to accrediting bodies for the right to issue continuation credits to participants in educational events.
  • Serves on the planning committee for faculty and/or staff continuing education.
  • Maintains the continuing education credit applications, certification, records retention requirements and monitors the awarding of the continuing education credits to participants.
  • Assists with the planning and coordination of educational events, such as organization councils, conferences, and programs.
  • Prepares lesson plans for use in both entry and in-service training sessions. Instructs in a classroom setting using appropriate audio-visual aids on a regular basis.
  • Learns new methods of training by observing other trainers and soliciting their ideas. Learns new subject matter through reading and research online and in libraries. Develops new course material to support professional, supervisory and team development.
  • Serves as an internal and external liaison for the team to provide and ensure a smooth, efficient, and appropriate flow of information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Certification/Skills:

    Strong working knowledge of presentation software.

    Minimum Education:

    Bachelor's degree in education or a related field or relevant work experience in lieu of education; Master's degree preferred.

    Minimum Experience:

    Five years of experience.

    Physical Requirements:

    Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

    Security Sensitive:

    This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

    Residency Requirement:

    Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
