The Veterinary Medical Center at The Ohio State University is searching for a
Supervisor for Hospital Patient Care to perform all the duties as a Veterinary Care Technician - Tier II but also coordinate the activities within a specified service including coordination of clinical support activities for the service area and supervision of staff including RVTs and Veterinary Assistants. Work involves assisting a veterinarian in technical procedures and activities involving animal health and disease. Successful candidate will assist team clinicians and care-giving colleagues with the reception, treatment, and monitoring of all patients housed in the patient wards. Specific duties may involve floating or cross-training through various areas to develop skills and techniques.
The successful candidate will focus on quality patient care and providing guidance, direction, supervision, and assistance to other veterinary care staff in order to attain/maintain optimum quality of care to patients. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: organizes, directs, and provides helpful and collegial assistance to professional students, clinicians, residents, and technical students; demonstrate a high-level of competence in emergent and non-emergent veterinary care situations, including client communications, manage specialized equipment independently, prepare relevant protocols, analyze results, manage medications and other therapies; supervises and manages technical and non-technical staff within the service; manages search process including selection and interviews; trains staff on the latest best practices in patient care; monitors staff performance and completes and delivers each phase of the performance management process; coordinates staff schedules including approving time and leave; develops, updates, and maintains a training manual and plan for new hires; develops, implements, and manages relevant policies and procedures necessary for appropriate staffing and operational needs; oversees and resolves performance or operational issues; assists with and provides direct instruction and orientation of veterinary and veterinary technician students; ensures staff in service are accurately recording charges in clients records for services and supplies received through the course of treatment; works with Assistant Director of Patient Care to develop and maintain up to date SOPs for the service; and other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Registered Veterinary Technician through The Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board. Must pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam. 3 years of relevant experience required. 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred.

Exposure to needle sticks, hazardous chemicals, and/or bio hazardous waste
