ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of Core Laboratory Services and Response (DCLSR), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Laboratory Technician III will provide support shipping and export support to the Division of Core Laboratory Services and Response (DCLSR).
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform research biological science work or support in vivo work in SARS-CoV-2 animal challenge studies.
Prepare reports and apply knowledge of the technical rules and procedures applying to programs to document and prepare analyses and reports.
Identify and carrying out guidelines and regulations related to proper handling and storage of various biological materials.
Focus on support of SARS-CoV-2 animal challenge studies within the CMB.
Be responsible for supporting all areas of animal challenge work within the branch, including preparation of supplies necessary for conducting in vivo research, animal sampling during challenge studies, performing necropsies and processing samples.
Perform molecular assays to confirm presence of virus and for determination of immune response following infection (viral inactivation, RNA extraction, real-time PCR, ELISA for determination of immune response, and Western Blot assays), as well as other miscellaneous assays as necessary to fully understand the animal challenge study results.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in, biology, chemistry, or related science with 4+ years of experience, or
8+ years of equivalent experience
Required:
BSL2 or BSL2-enhanced level laboratory experience
Knowledge of laboratory and safety regulations including CLIA, ISO, and/or OSHA standards
Experience aiding in the detection and characterization of unknown bacterial species.
Ability to rapidly identify and characterize biological and/or other agents that cause several diseases.
Experience working with a number of biological organisms and awareness of their handling and storage.
Experience working with and adapting/modifying SOPs
Experience working with inventory management and material shipping.
Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the preparation of memos and reports.
Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
Desirable:
Previous experience working in a similar role.
Advanced degree in a life science
Previous experience working in a similar role.
Experience modifying methods based upon evaluation of research results.
Demonstrated skills and experience writing project reports, research protocols and manuscripts.
Specific detailed knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirements, handling of clinical specimens, and aseptic techniques.
Knowledge of documentation for equipment calibration and validation.
Knowledge of quality systems and inventory software functions.
Language Skills:
The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
