Job Description

Scope:  This role is responsible for ensuring workplace safety, environmental compliance and health and well-being of employees. The EHS Specialist develops, implements, and monitors programs to ensure compliance with environmental regulation, occupation health standards, and workplace safety protocols. The role involves strategic planning, employee training, risk management, and promoting a culture of safety and responsibility throughout the organization.  

Responsibilities & Tasks:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Align EHS initiatives with organization goals and industry best practices.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for EHS-related matters internally and externally.
  • Analyze proposed changes for environmental, process, and safety impacts including: new equipment, process changes, chemical approvals, and facility upgrades.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain permits, licenses, and documentation required by regulatory agencies.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify compliance gaps.
  • Oversee the management of hazardous material and safety equipment.

Workplace Safety Management:

  • Lead initiatives to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of safety systems, including PPE and emergency response plans.
  • Monitor workplace incidents and lead investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions.

Training and Employee Engagement:

  • Provide leadership and direction on EHS training programs for all levels of the organization.
  • Conduct workshops and drills to prepare employees for emergencies.
  • Promote a culture of safety and accountability through consistent communication and engagement.

Performance and Monitoring Reporting:

  • Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, health, and environmental goals.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and regulatory agencies.
  • Continuously assess the effectiveness of EHS programs and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with vendors to procure necessary equipment and resources.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering/Science, or related field.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in EHS or similar role.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills both verbal and written.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance
  • Preferred:
    • Ability to adapt and learn in a changing work environment.
    • Ability to work in a team environment with a wide variety of people
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills
    • Ability to encourage and build a culture of inclusion
