Job Summary

The Associate Development Engineer will be responsible to assist in techno-economical derisking of projects as a part of the Pre-Construction and Engineering team of the Corporate Strategy group. The position will work closely with various groups and provide design and energy models for projects. This role will involve minor travel to project sites and manufacturer visits.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

• Assist department with techno-economic evaluation of  Vistra’s renewable energy project pipeline.


• Evaluate site constraints and create site layouts to evaluate system size and design.


• Create energy models for projects to evaluate the energy output of projects.


• Run comparative analysis to compare modules, inverters, and racking types to support technical evaluation of Vistra’s preferred vendors.


• Gather data and information to support departmental activities


• All other duties as assigned

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Nuclear) with up to 0-1 years of experience


• Understanding of electric power generation concepts, including renewable generation and energy storage system technologies.


• Interested in renewable energy development for solar photovoltaic and battery energy systems.


• Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 tools, experience with AutoCAD or Civil 3d and any design tools like PVSyst, SAM, PVWatts, etc.

Key Metrics

• Successfully support the early-stage development activities by providing updated layouts and energy models.


• Coordinate with various teams like real estate, commercial, finance, among others to accurately understand the constraints for renewable energy projects


• Use the identified constraints to run multiple iterations of design and energy models
