POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Act as a sustainability subject matter expert and consultant to the business providing perspective, insight, guidance, and knowledge to operations teams.
Coordinate with Operations leaders and work directly with project teams to meet owner project requirements (OPRs), to respond to and comply with client and regulatory requirements, and to support company's green building services provided to clients to incorporate sustainable design and materials use.
Be a resource to Swinerton's project teams at project start-up for projects seeking sustainability certifications to help the team with credit interpretation, understanding their obligations toward certification, and feasibility during the early planning and start-up phases of the work.
Provide ongoing support and consulting throughout the project's development, construction, and close out to ensure the work of the project team successfully fulfills Swinerton's contractual obligations.
Develop and maintain tracking and documentation tools and strategies for credits or project imperatives for which Swinerton is responsible, which may include but are not limited to waste management and diversion tracking, materials and resources tracking, low emitting materials, and embodied carbon tracking.
Directly manage sustainability deliverables for key, high-value projects, including regular LEED and/or Owner Architect Contractor meetings, benchmarking project carbon emissions, and submittals to green certification agencies.
Provide business development and pursuit assistance as needed, assist in sustainability education, and support corporate environmental sustainability goals.
Support overall project strategy with sustainability guidance related to cost, technical, business development and advocacy assistance, as needed.
Visit company locations to support projects, monitor performance and improvement plans.
Attend project meetings and provide guidance to teams regarding carbon emissions benchmarking and certification.
Research federal, state, and local incentives for energy efficiency or sustainability-related projects.
Support Swinerton's sustainability and corporate responsibility goals and strategies in partnership with Corporate Responsibility team.
Provide routine updates on key operational metrics that drive sustainability performance, including benchmarking and tracking projects' green performance for internal corporate reporting on construction projects (water, energy, carbon, waste, etc.).
Support internal and external communications to foster a culture of corporate responsibility and strengthen Swinerton's ESG brand.
Complete other responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of sustainability, building science, integrated design, and LEED, WELL, and LBC rating systems
Experience tracking and reporting embodied carbon at the project level
Accreditation and experience during both preconstruction and construction phase in at least one of the following four green building certification programs: LEED, WELL, Net Zero Carbon, Living Building Challenge
Preferred 5+ years of experience in construction, architecture, engineering, and/or sustainability consulting
Green building certification project experience- 5 projects minimum preferred.
Experience with sustainability KPI data gathering, goal-setting, and facilitation
Knowledge of the construction industry, contract requirements, pre-job start-up, and subcontractor scope-of-work
Effective interpersonal skills, including relationship building, team support and collaboration
Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams)
Proficient English written and verbal communication skills, including public-speaking and presentation skills
Experience with managing others (a plus), working with other teams, managing process & cross-function collaboration
Skilled at managing multiple projects and tasks
Research and analytical skills
Ability to travel
