Job Scope

The Product Manager, Upstream Portfolio Marketing (PM) will facilitate the implementation of growth and product lifecycle management strategies for the existing and future portfolio. Support the development and strategy for the Foot and Ankle product portfolio through market research to support prioritization and decision making in close cooperation with R&D, Business Development, Product Managers (U.S. and global), Sales, Operations, Regulatory Affairs and Finance. Drive portfolio alignment with the company strategy and financial goals. This role is pivotal in driving portfolio success by executing, but not limited to, the following responsibilities: conduct market research, engage in VOC activities, monitor competitive landscape and identify customer needs to develop a comprehensive portfolio strategy that supports the business; work with R&D, BD, RA, Operations, Sales, finance and downstream marketing to develop business/financial plans; develop new product forecasts, customer segmentation opportunities and platform positioning strategies; support new and sustaining product introduction marketing activities including limited market releases in collaboration with downstream marketing, R&D, BD and the project management office; conduct analysis of potential market opportunities to create an integrated product portfolio that supports project prioritization and decision making for future investments and ensures a robust development pipeline; work closely with the downstream team to create product positioning and corporate strategies that will be used for external messaging in the marketplace; manage and develop key opinion leaders and design surgeons; actively participate in key customer visits, industry meetings and knowledge conferences; establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) that measure NPI delivery, portfolio performance, PLCM activities and market share growth using these insights to continually refine portfolio efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate market / business opportunities and/or portfolio gaps, build business cases, portfolio positioning/messaging, serving as marketing steward throughout New Product Introduction (NPI) process.
  • Product Lifecycle Management to help guide the product lifecycle process, including forecasting, obsolescence, timely updates, and product transitions.
  • Alignment with pricing strategy during new product introduction and launch planning. Work with Commercial Excellence, Sales and Downstream Marketing to design competitive, market-responsive pricing strategies that support profitability and strengthen the team’s market positioning.
  • Provide market analysis to provide ongoing market insights, including trends, segmentation, and site of care shifts, to keep the organization informed and enable the organization to adjust tactics for maximum impact.
  • Participate in customer engagement activities includes relationship development, VOC collection and architect strategies for creating, maintaining, and maximizing exposure with existing and prospective customers to gain market insights through workshops, conferences, and webinars.
  • Cross-functional collaboration and work closely with cross-functional teams to maintain organizational alignment on portfolio goals and ensure that marketing initiatives effectively support the commercial team’s goals.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in engineering, marketing or other relevant field of study is required
  • 3+ years of experience in marketing, engineering and/or sales
  • 2+ years of medical device experience
  • Experience with product portfolio management and new product development
  • Strong skills in project planning, analysis, financial modeling, forecasting and communication with cross-functional teams and ability to deliver results with multiple and complex projects
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to a diverse audience including senior leaders
  • Able to influence, guide and collaborate across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work effectively across geographic and cultural boundaries
  • Demonstrated success converting customer and market insights into actionable strategic plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge of competitive landscape and marketplace
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a portfolio directly linked to broader business / group goals
  • Excels in communication through written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, PowerBI)
