Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Under the direction of and reporting to the Safety Director, the Safety Intern learns the basics of the scrap metal recycling industry. The Intern will be given various safety projects, as well as the opportunity to be involved with day-to-day safety activities of the safety and production groups.
This position will focus on safety system improvements and related projects such as (but not limited to):
Completion of job hazard analysis
Completion of hazard assessments for PPE requirements
Analyzing key metrics such as incident trends, near misses, behavior observations and audit findings
Make periodic field visits to conduct safety inspections and special projects
Develop safety training resources and conduct training session at a company facility
Working extensively in company's EHS management software system and SharePoint
Review existing programs and make recommendations for improvement
Minimum Requirements:
Must be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or closely related field
Must have completed sophomore year in the major program of study
Minimum Qualifications:
Intermediate skills in Excel, Power Point, and Word, and accurate data entry skills.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify problems and develop alternative solutions to complete the task.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize workload.
Ability to work outdoors in a construction atmosphere.
