Job Description:
Under general supervision, analyze and review air dispersion modeling using EPA approved software such as AERMOD and its suite of ancillary programs. Support air construction permitting activities by ensuring discharges of pollutants into the air will be in compliance with the Clean Air Act.
Position is responsible for conducting air dispersion modeling in support of Air Construction Permit Section. Essential duties include:
After an initial training period, work independently to review pre-construction air dispersion modeling to determine compliance with applicable regulations.
Conduct and/or review air quality computer modeling using various EPA-approved dispersion models such as AERMOD. Review modeling protocols submitted by industry in support of construction permit applications. Coordinate and gather source data necessary for conducting modeling.
Prepare air dispersion modeling reports with enforceable requirements and conditions to assure compliance with the Nebraska Air Quality Regulations.
Work with permit writers and applicants to obtain air dispersion modeling parameters and information needed to review, preform air dispersion modeling, and prepare reports for air construction permits.
Give presentations and provide testimony at public hearings in areas of responsibility.
Participate in the development and revision of standard operating procedures, guidance documents, state implementation plans/strategies, air quality regulations and rulemaking. Conduct research and compile data to support proposed changes.
Duties may include working with a team of modeling, permit, and inventory specialists in implementing a consistent and efficient permit modeling program.
As needed, advises and may meet with prospective industries to provide guidance for air dispersion modeling and permitting.
Helps with training internal teammates, regulated community and consultants on various air related topics. As needed, assist in helping regulated community as well as consultants on air related questions they may have.
Work on General Construction Permits; the individual works with applicants on applications, as well as keeping the documents up to date on the website.

Location and address of position: 245 Fallbrook Blvd - Suite #100 - Lincoln, NE
Work schedule: Monday - Friday - 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Flexible schedule and 10-hour workdays maybe allowed with management approval.
Dress Code: Business Casual
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in the physical sciences, natural sciences, environmental science, geology, biology, agronomy, civil engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, hydrology, community and regional planning or a related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Other:
Have a valid driver's license or ability to provide independent transportation.
Ability to travel overnight (approximately 10%)
Ability to climb, bend and stoop
Ability to walk on muddy, icy, uneven terrains
Ability to walk long distances
Ability to work in an industrial setting
Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of: Principles and practices of air quality management, and state, local and federal air pollution control rules and regulations. Skill in: Excellent written and oral communication, analytical and judgment skills, and computer skills. A background in computer programming or meteorology is a plus. Ability to: Read and write technical reports; interpret complex environmental regulations, and prepare concise and enforceable air dispersion modeling reports and documents. Relate well to people having various technical and non-technical backgrounds
