Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, the Assistant Project Manager - Patient Navigation will lead communication efforts to disseminate information and educate ALS patients regarding the All ALS & Research Projects. The Asst. PM - Patient Navigation will act as an intermediary between patients, caregivers, families and study teams to address questions related to trial participation and enrollment, and concerns or special needs that may arise during trial participation. The Asst. PM - Patient Navigation will be a member of various committees as a patient representative.


The Assistant Project Manager (APM)- Patient Navigation will provide extensive support to patients throughout the enrollment process improving the patient and caregiver experience, ensuring each patient is accounted for, facilitating the enrollment process, and by creating a less ambiguous experience. In addition, the APM - Patient Navigation will lead a patient outreach campaign to uncover and resolve inefficiencies in screening and enrollment operations at trial sites.


The position requires a high degree of sensitivity and compassion while remaining professional. The ideal candidate is flexible, independent, and willing to support patients by working with study teams. Candidates must also have strong communication skills and the ability to converse comfortably with patients and their caregivers.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



The Assistant Project Manager - Patient Navigation will:

  • Act as an intermediary between patients, caregivers, families, study teams, and leadership.

  • Serve as the central contact point for patients looking for information on the All ALS & Research Projects and respond to inquiries in a reasonable timeframe.

  • Responsible for educating, facilitating, and disseminating information about the All ALS & Research Projects by phone, email, or other media.

  • Assess patient/family questions and concerns and develop a plan to address those needs in a reasonable timeframe.

  • Guide patients, caregivers, and families through the steps for enrollment without increasing burden by providing comprehensive support, frequent proactive check-ins, and resolving delays in enrollment.

  • Communicate information to the appropriate study team in a reasonable time frame to answer patient or family questions, address concerns, and/or expectations.

  • Create an enrollment support plan with the project management team, site investigators, and coordinators to assist patients interested in the trial.

  • Work with each trial site to efficiently stay in contact with every patient and caregiver who is interested in participating in the trial.

  • Work with trial sites to improve site response times, provide consistent communication, and keep updated on enrollment status.

  • Investigate and respond to patient complaints and report unresolved issues to leadership.

  • Present feedback from patients, families, and healthcare providers to leadership during committee meetings.

  • Act as a patient representative to provide the patient's perspective on changes to the protocol.

  • Assist project management with developing patient education materials.

  • Collect data about patient inquiries and issues, and present to leadership to support changes in trial conduct or procedures.

  • Assist those who are disqualified or remain on the waitlist to identify and connect with alternative options.





  • Qualifications

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



    • Prior experience in healthcare as a patient care associate, medical assistant, nursing assistant, or similar profession.



    • Clinical knowledge to enable effective interactions and communications with patients, caregivers, and clinicians as well as an understanding of the importance of directing clinical questions to licensed professionals when necessary.



    • Willingness to learn about clinical research.



    • A high degree of sensitivity and compassion.



    • Empathize with the unique healthcare journey of ALS patients

    • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively and complete tasks.


    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication, skills; good command of English language, including medical terminology.


    • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters discreetly.


    • Knowledge of and compliance with institutional, JCAHO, HIPAA, and other regulatory bodies standards.



    EDUCATION:



    Bachelor's Degree Preferred



    EXPERIENCE:



    1-2 years related experience
