Role Description:

Arcadis is seeking a Senior Wastewater Engineer with a strong background in process mechanical engineering to join our Resilience Water team in Western New York. In this role, you will lead efforts to advance Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) projects across all phases, including studies, design, and construction administration. This position may be based in our Buffalo, NY, or Rochester, NY office.

This role sits within our global business area of Resilience. We work to protect our natural environment and water resources, while powering our world for future generations. Around the world, we're feeling the effects of climate change, rapid urbanization, and loss of biodiversity. The rate at which we're seeing large-scale, unforeseen events such as floods and wildfires, is becoming more frequent.

Role Accountabilities:

As a Senior Wastewater Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in drinking water, wastewater, and process mechanical engineering to lead impactful projects. Key responsibilities include:


  • Design Innovation: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create innovative design documentation for WTP and WWTP projects.
  • Project Leadership: Drive project schedules, prepare bid packages, and develop accurate construction cost estimates to ensure timely and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Engineering Excellence: Conduct detailed engineering calculations and analyses to ensure project precision and efficiency.
  • Cross-Discipline Coordination: Work closely with building design disciplines and CADD/BIM designers to deliver integrated and comprehensive designs.
  • Quality and Compliance: Uphold client and Arcadis standards for quality, safety, and compliance throughout all phases of design and construction.

Key Skills & Experience:

To succeed in this role, you should have strong project and task management experience, particularly with process mechanical equipment and related projects. Additionally, excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to a wide range of audiences.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • 10 years of related engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineering license
  • Municipal water/wastewater design and construction management experience

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $97,600 - $146,400. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
