Who we're looking for:

As a respiratory specialty RN at Great Plain Post Acute, you will focus on managing and treating residents with chronic respiratory conditions like trach care, COPD, asthma, pneumonia, and sleep apnea, by assessing their breathing needs, administering oxygen therapy, providing medication education, and coordinating care with the Respiratory Therapists, and other healthcare providers within the facility.

Essential Duties:


  • Incident reporting: Timely documentation of any respiratory complications or changes in resident condition promptly need completed.



  • Patient assessment: Regularly monitoring respiratory status, including vital signs, breath sounds, oxygen saturation levels, and identifying signs of respiratory distress.


  • Oxygen therapy management: Adjusting oxygen flow rates as needed, monitoring oxygen delivery devices, and educating patients on proper oxygen use.


  • Medication administration: Delivering respiratory medications like inhalers, nebulizers, and oral medications as prescribed.


  • Treatment planning: Developing individualized care plans for patients with respiratory issues, including interventions like chest physiotherapy or airway clearance techniques.


  • Patient education: Teaching patients and their families about their respiratory condition, medication management, proper breathing techniques, and self-care strategies.


  • Collaboration with other healthcare team members: Communicating with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other nursing staff regarding patient status and care needs.
