We are seeking a full-time Construction & Facilities Project Manager in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing project management and coordination for moderately complex projects between project teams and other departments in the development of Garmin products and may serve as a Project Leader on small to mid-sized projects.
The Construction and Facilities team is responsible for the management of new construction, remodeling, and facilities projects of all types of construction including tracking and managing every aspect of the projects across the North Americas.
Essential Functions
Applies project management skills on moderately complex projects or tasks, including understanding and communicating milestones, timelines, and project decisions
Provisions the timely documentation of clear project scope (i.e. detailed assumptions, requirements (internal, external, regulatory), objectives/targets, validation needs, resource estimates, costs, and timing)
Leads effective and efficient team meetings, ensures team members/stakeholders are appropriately informed, and communicates project tradeoffs and decisions to ensure forward moving progress of the project
Supports creation and maintenance of complex timelines and milestone tracking
Applies project metrics and risk management principles to identify and mitigate potential schedule impacting items
Drives the overall progress of assigned projects towards completion, using good judgment in determining when to escalate issues to management
May perform as a project leader on small to mid-size projects
Leverages understanding of product domain to support concept/new feature development efforts
Ensures accurate project reporting and consistently provides clear and accurate project documentation
Develops good relationships between the various team(s), other Garmin teams/departments and external entities (e.g. customers, suppliers, etc.)
Collaborates and participates in design reviews by providing input, feedback, and process improvement suggestions
Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques including support of root cause and corrective actions for given problems
Demonstrates full use of accepted standards, procedures, tools and requirements as they relate to project management and product segment
Demonstrates good customer communication skills, including but not limited to handling difficult conversations and negotiating with the customer for reasonable delivery targets
Provides mentoring and guidance to less experienced Project Managers (Project Manager 1
Operations Leadership Team:
Represents Operations as Key Member working with IT on the Business Requirements Competency Center (BRCC) as a Super User or expert in the Business Intelligence (BI) tools and advocates for their use in the various departments
Serves as subject Matter Expert (SME) for source data and provides requirements and guidance on required data
Assists with architecting data solutions
Tests and data validation to ensure accuracy and completeness
Provides structured training of reporting layers and solutions to business users
Identifies and engages end-users as appropriate (ex. testing, validation, training, etc.)
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Management, Operations, Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 2 years project management experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work across functional and organizational departments
Demonstrated Project Management skills with a proven track record in delivering projects within the expected timeline and budget
Demonstrated experience with effectively eliciting cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and other departments and ability to bring project to successful completion through political sensitivity.
Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies
Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead projects in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Ability to deal with confidential company matters
Proficient computer skills in MS Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint)
Desired Qualifications
Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5 as a general rule)
APICS Certified (American Production and Inventory Control Society)
Previous experience with Oracle ERP demonstrating technical competence in configuration of business functional modules
General understanding in the areas of application programming, database and system design
General understanding of Internet, Intranet, Extranet and client/server architectures
