Are you a detail-oriented professional with a knack for precision and a passion for roofing and solar energy? We’re looking for a Roofing Estimator to play a critical role in our solar and roofing division, bridging the gap between innovative energy solutions and top-tier roofing services.
SUMMARY: The Roofing Estimator will play a key role within our solar and roofing division, equally responsible for three main functions:
Conducting comprehensive roofing reviews for photovoltaic (solar) projects.
Providing accurate pre-sales estimating support to the solar sales team.
Performing individual roofing sales for roof-only (no solar) opportunities.
As an individual contributor, the Roofing Estimator will recommend necessary repairs, determine pricing strategies, compile comprehensive bills of materials, and manage sales functions including estimating, follow-up, pipeline management, and contract signing for roof-only opportunities. Reporting directly to the Construction Manager – Roofing, the Roofing Estimator ensures all tasks align with the company's standards and objectives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a technical expert in all stages of project design related to roofing, ensuring compliance with regulatory codes and customer requirements.
Demonstrate proficiency in roof construction and components.
Travel to residential properties, assess roofing conditions, and provide detailed repair, maintenance, and reroofing estimates.
Review and assess photos to determine roof viability and job specifications.
Collaborate with the Operations Department, Roofing Manager, and Construction Department during planning and construction to ensure quality and adherence to schedule.
Conduct roofing reviews for PV projects, working with Roofing Design Specialists to develop processes and training for accurate and professional roof repair quotations.
Prepare detailed pre-sales roofing cost estimates to support the sales team in creating competitive project proposals.
Independently generate estimates for roofing projects, considering materials, labor, and overhead costs.
Assist Project Leads and Coordinators in helping homeowners understand change orders, roofing materials, and financing fees.
Determine and identify proper materials and quantities for new and existing projects, and prepare Bills of Materials for all roofing projects.
Collaborate with the Procurement and Warehouse teams to ensure availability of all necessary materials and equipment.
Identify safety hazards and precautions on homeowner properties.
Actively estimate, consult, and sell "roofing only" projects, either independently or with the roofing team.
Contact assigned leads, update status in Salesforce, and set up pre-sales roof inspection appointments.
Maintain and input all required information into BIQ, create proposals, and consult with homeowners.
Assist the sales department with quotes and recommendations for different types of installations.
Perform other regulated duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
Minimum 1 Years’ experience in General Construction trades or Roofing.
Highly competent with MS Office suite: Word, Excel, and Outlook – willing to embrace new technology.
Strong knowledge of roofing materials, techniques, and cost estimation.
Proven hands on install experience and knowledge of the following roofing material: Underlayment, Tile, Composition shingle, TPO, Torch Down
Demonstrates knowledge of roof construction and materials.
FAA Drone Pilot License holder preferred, capable of passing the License required
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Proven experience in estimating, preferably in solar, roofing or related fields.
Proficiency in Salesforce software or similar tools.
Strong ability to persuade and influence at all levels.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and is results driven.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Roofing Construction Knowledge: Understanding of roofing construction processes, materials, and techniques, including for both traditional and solar roofing products.
Estimation Software Proficiency: Experience with estimation software and tools specific to roofing, such as BIQ (Building Intelligence Quotient) for creating detailed proposals and estimates.
Material Quantification Skills: Ability to accurately determine and quantify materials needed for roofing projects, including preparation of Bills of Materials.
Project Design Expertise: Knowledge of project design related to roofing, observing regulatory building codes, customer requirements, and permitting processes.
Documentation and Reporting: Competency in maintaining and updating project information, proposals, and estimates in relevant systems (e.g., BIQ, Salesforce).
BEHAVIORAL SKILLS:
Analytical Thinking: Ability to assess complex information from various sources, such as photos and job specifications, to make informed decisions on roof viability and necessary materials.
Attention to Detail: Precision in calculating material quantities, preparing Bills of Materials, and ensuring that all aspects of the roofing project adhere to regulatory codes and customer requirements.
Collaboration and Teamwork: Working effectively with Roofing Design Specialists, Project Leads, Project Coordinators, and the Procurement team to ensure seamless project execution. This includes developing training, processes, and ensuring materials are timely and available for installations.
Communication Skills: Clearly and effectively communicating with homeowners to explain change orders, roofing materials, and financing fees. Additionally, maintaining active communication with leads and providing updates in Salesforce.
Collaboration and Teamwork: The ability to work cooperatively with the operations, construction, and warehouse teams, as well as roofing design specialists, to ensure project success.
Problem-Solving: Identifying and addressing potential safety hazards on properties and finding solutions to unexpected issues that arise during the project lifecycle.

Office: Standard office environment. Individual will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally may have to lift boxes full of materials for purposes of setup of programs, typically 25 pounds or less.
Field: Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring. Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding. Must be physically capable of pulling wires and cables through conduits. Must be able to work at heights. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
