Description:


An NIH-funded postdoctoral position focused on the impact of estrogens and estrogen receptors on aging hippocampal memory system is available in the neuroendocrinology laboratory of Dr. Jill Daniel at the Brain Institute at Tulane University. The current position is funded by a grant from the National Institute on Aging that aims to understand how short-term midlife estradiol administration can exert long-term impacts on brain and memory. Research is conducted in rodent models and experimental approaches used in the lab include behavioral analyses, fiber photometry, biochemical and molecular assays, and viral-vector mediated and pharmacological neural manipulations.




Qualifications:


REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 1.       PhD in neuroscience or a related field
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY:  1. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively2. Experience in a laboratory setting in which rodent models are used3. Excellent written and oral English communication skills



SPECIAL REQUIRED ABILITY FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:4.  Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University's Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  11. Experience performing rodent behavioral and biomolecular assays2. Experience in rodent survival surgery3. At least one first-author publication
REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECK, PHYSICAL, AND DRUG SCREENING FOR INCUMBENTS WHO HAVE CONTACT OR EXPOSURE TO ANIMALS OR ANIMAL TISSUES:Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment.  For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation, required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
