Position Title: Engineering Specialist 1, 2, or Sr. - System Planning
Location: Davenport, IA, United States
Description: The engineering specialist in the electric system planning department reports to the supervisor or manager, electric system planning. The work responsibilities include providing support for NERC and FERC compliance, analyzing performance of the electric distribution system using power flow models, preparing evaluations of potential system enhancements, preparing written recommendations and providing support for the annual automatic load book, which is a listing of recorded loadings on circuits and substations on or about the summer peak load. The engineering specialist also provides support for the following computer applications; historical data base of energy management system information, high voltage outage for collecting and summarizing high voltage outages, SynerGEE for power flow modeling of the electric distribution system and G-Tech for mapping and facilities management. These applications are either directly used or whose output is used by electric system planning.
Responsibilities: Provide engineering services for the planning and budgeting of project additions to MidAmerican Energy Company's electrical energy delivery system. (65%)
Provide engineering project management for all phases of a project including planning, scheduling, planning estimates, planning specifications, planning reports, consulting engineering or software contracts and engineering presentations. (20%)
Conduct technical studies and investigations and prepares oral and written reports. (10%)
Provide engineering-based planning assistance to other departments. (5%)
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (0-5%)
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Three years of related experience.
Five or more years of related experience for the engineering specialist 2 role.
Eight or more years of related experience for the senior engineering specialist role.
Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
