A full time Postdoctoral Fellow position is available at OHSU at the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine focusing on the mechanisms of stroke in white matter (WM) as a function of age. Epigenetic regulation of post-injury recovery and preconditioning of brain against injury are the main areas of focus. The fellow will participate in high impact research at the intersection of experimental neuroscience, neuroimaging and clinical translation.
Responsibilities include performing in vitro and in vivo stroke models, electrophysiology experiments, and protein assays and biochemical experiments, and processing tissue samples for imaging, including live and fix specimens, generating data utilized for both grant and publication applications. The successful candidate will also participate in academic development, hypothesis generation, experimental planning, data interpretation; training and coaching students and junior staff; and grant and publication writing.
The fellow will have the opportunity to learn experimental approaches in our lab such as optic nerve and corpus callosum slice models, employing electrophysiological recordings, and advanced microscopy techniques such as confocal, two-photon microscopy and 3D electron microscopy. The fellow will work as part of a multidisciplinary research team including neuroscientists and imaging scientists. A high level of engagement in these projects, including the ability to provide pivotal conceptual and technical input, is essential.
This position requires a doctorate degree in Neuroscience, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, or Cell Biology as well as experience in rodent animal surgery, mitochondrial functional assay, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to function in a dynamic team-based environment.
