Role Overview: Do you have a passion for engineering data to solve dynamic problems in retail? As a Data Engineer in Catalog, you will leverage Walmart's vast data sets to empower data science initiatives. You'll be responsible for building and maintaining data pipelines that enable our Data Scientists and Analysts to extract valuable insights. This role requires collaboration with various teams to address complex challenges and drive impactful solutions for our customers and sellers.



About the Data and Customer Analytics (DCA) Organization: The DCA team focuses on managing world-class data assets, ensuring compliance with data standards, and developing robust data pipelines and self-service tools to drive business growth and new opportunities.



What You'll Do:



  • Utilize cutting-edge data engineering techniques to create and maintain critical datasets.

  • Contribute to complex data transformation orchestration, refining raw data into valuable, governed data assets.

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analysts, and business stakeholders to solve exciting challenges and evolve the marketplace business model.

  • Lead projects by gathering requirements, developing code, conducting unit testing, and ensuring timely delivery.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data engineers.

  • Design and maintain scalable, fault-tolerant data systems/pipelines for large data volumes.

  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure high data accuracy.

  • Analyze and identify solutions for business problems through analytics and big data technologies.

  • Build expertise to support the data needs of product teams, analytics, and data scientists.




What You'll Bring:



  • Bachelor's/master's degree in computer science or related field.

  • 7+ years of experience in big data technologies and data pipeline development.

  • Proficiency in managing large datasets (terabytes).

  • Expertise in big data technologies (Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Hive) on cloud platforms (GCP preferred).

  • Experience with workflow orchestrators (Automic, Airflow, Luigi).

  • Strong SQL skills for data analysis and optimization (preferably in BigQuery or Spark SQL).

  • Excellent data modeling skills for designing adaptable schemas.

  • Ability to understand data requirements and translate them into effective pipeline solutions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.


Nice to Have:



  • Experience with near real-time streaming data pipelines (Apache Kafka, Spark Streaming).

  • Understanding of REST APIs and technologies like Apache Druid, Redis, Elastic Search, or GraphQL.

  • Exposure to developing reports/dashboards using Looker or Tableau.

  • Experience in the eCommerce domain.

Sunnyvale, California US-04397:The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00-$234,000.00

Bentonville, Arkansas US-10735:The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00-$180,000.00




























Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...
