General Description:

This position is essentially responsible for troubleshooting, servicing, repairing, and installing electrical systems associated with power distribution, motor and boiler controls, motors, generators, and other electrical equipment. This position shall also perform other duties of a maintenance mechanic to include maintenance of mechanical systems, plumbing systems, and other duties associated with the overall appearance and operation of the facilities.

Student Assistant and electrician helpers, as necessary. Supervision of outside contractors performing campus electrical work.


Minimum Education/Experience:

Electrical Journeyman's License


Must have a valid Oklahoma driver's license

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is very heavy work which requires the person to occasionally exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:


This position requires the person to frequently move about the various campuses.


This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to administration, staff, faculty, students, and others to perform the essential functions of the position; must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.


This position requires the person to frequently operate a computer, other machinery, and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.


This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that frequently involves repetitive motions of fingers, hands, and wrists.


This position requires the person to occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, stairs, ramps, scaffolding, etc. to perform the essential functions of the position.

Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor setting; when working outdoors this person is subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees) and extreme hot temperatures (temperatures above 100 degrees).


Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredictable requirements or demands.


May need to communicate above ambient noise.


Frequently exposed to hazards such as vibrations; close proximity to moving mechanical parts and/or electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places; exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals, oils, and/or other cutting fluids; exposed to fumes, odors, dusts, and gases associated building maintenance and operations; and may be required to wear a respirator.


Frequently performs essential functions in close quarters, crawl space, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes; narrow aisles or passageways.


Work is performed during a normal daily work schedule; rotates maintenance and operations duty coverage as necessary for emergency response; and required to rotate one week and a Saturday for on-call duty as needed.

Primary: M-F 7:30am - 4:30pm


Rotating Maintenance & Operations duty coverage.


As necessary for response to campus emergencies.

Job Duties (Position Specific):

Job Duties (Duties Assignment Statement):

Installs switches, receptacles, fuses, and breakers; installs and repairs incandescent and fluorescent light fixtures; and logs in location, type, and number of bulbs used.


Performs preventive maintenance on all mechanical/electrical equipment, utilizing equipment manuals and established procedures to include: lubrication of bearings; replacement/adjustment; filter replacement; electrical components; and maintenance of fluid levels.


Examines electrical equipment and systems for damage and corrosion; installs and connects distribution, generation, and utilization equipment components, such as relays, switches, transformers, heating elements, etc.


Troubleshoots complex electrical control circuits and replaces defective components including power rectifiers, photoelectric sensors, and regulators.


Cuts, threads, and bends conduit; assembles and replaces conduit, conduit fittings, junction boxes, and supports; locates and repairs electrical wiring faults; and repairs and services high-voltage equipment such as rotating machinery, circuit breakers, and power distribution systems.


Uses hand tools such as tubing and conduit benders, threading machines, and soldering irons to complete repair or installation of electrical systems; cuts, threads, solders, brazes, and blues iron, copper, and plastic piping systems for repair of existing systems or new installations.


Operates specialized equipment such as: drill presses; threading machines; grinding machine welders; saws of all types; shears; and other related equipment in order to complete necessary installations and repairs.


Erects and utilizes specialized ladders, rigging, and scaffolding; installs, adjusts, calibrates, and repairs pneumatic control systems including air compressors and refrigerated air dryer units; and drives college-owned vehicles, as required, to perform essential job duties.


Repairs, adjusts, and maintains heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.


Performs a variety of repairs and maintenance to plumbing systems; and performs related work as required.
