Overall Responsibility
The Quality Assurance (QA) Manager is responsible for maintaining food safety and quality standards. This role involves overseeing facility inspections, conducting quality audits, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The QA Manager also ensures that all employees adhere to established rules, policies, and guidelines, and provides ongoing training.
Core Job Duties
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Authority to halt processes and stop product shipments when food safety issues arise.
Oversee recall and mock recall procedures, ensuring thorough documentation and accountability.
Schedule and complete internal quality audits according to the Internal Audit Schedule.
Lead and complete routine audits and inspections from GFSI bodies, customers, and vendors.
Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local food codes and oversee the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) program.
Prepare and maintain standard operating procedures, policies, process control sheets, and technical reports.
Monitor, test, and examine finished products and the production environment to ensure compliance with Quality, Food Safety, Environmental Monitoring Program, and GMPs.
Serve on the Food Safety Team and other committees as a specialist.
Assist site management in training supervisors and production personnel to meet food safety, quality, and time-related objectives. Act as a resource for all employees on proper Food Safety and Quality procedures.
Maintain and promote a strong food safety culture.
Practice Food Safety Culture consistently.
Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Requirements
Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in using computers, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and the Internet.
Ability and desire to train, teach, coach, and direct people from various backgrounds and education levels positively.
Competence in implementing and maintaining HACCP-based food safety plans.
Understanding of the SQF Food Safety Code: Food Manufacturing and the requirements to implement and maintain an SQF System relevant to the site's scope of certification.
Positive and professional demeanor.
Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
Education/Experience
Experience with a GFSI standard.
PCQI certification.
Completion of a HACCP training course.
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field (preferred).
2 years of experience in Food Safety and Quality Assurance in a food manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
This job operates in a manufacturing environment with normal temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees inside an air-conditioned building. There may be minor smoke/smell from ovens and dryers and contact with food allergens like wheat, egg, soy, milk, peanuts, and tree nuts. Occasionally required to enter a walk-in cooler or freezer with temperatures between 0 to 40 degrees.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Stooping and bending may be below the knees, and lifting and reaching may be above shoulders. Grasping, pushing, and pulling as needed.
