JOB OVERVIEW:
As a member of the plant leadership team, this Maintenance Supervisor role is responsible for leading and ensuring the safe execution of all maintenance activities while leading the maintenance teams at the Farm Plant, located at 9826 E. 3000 N. Road. The successful candidate will ensure that the facilities are equipped to efficiently meet the needs of production by planning, coordination and managing the preventive maintenance programs of the production lines, general building equipment, and plant utilities including steam boilers, ammonia systems and equipment, compressed air, refrigeration systems, hot water, electricity, wastewater, and all supporting equipment and systems such as fire suppression and environmental monitoring protection systems. They will manage facility upkeep programs including, but not limited to the structural and mechanical integrity of the general building, roof, surrounding structures and property, production equipment, and material handling equipment. The supervisor will ensure the success of their team by leading through the company values of humility, integrity, trust, and excellence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with all company human and food safety policies and procedures and aligned with VDF company values.
Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of maintenance activities including the development and implementation of key maintenance programs and maintenance personnel development and training.
Provides guidance, training, and coaching to the maintenance team.
Monitors and manages personnel matters, including timekeeping, work schedules, PTO planning, employee performance, and discipline.
Responsible for managing the sites assets, preventative maintenance programs, and work order requests through the company CMMS program.
Optimize overall equipment effectiveness by improving reliability, improving process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving safety and quality standards.
Responsible for arranging/managing outside contractors and subsequent contracts as needed to support plant production operations, temporarily or permanent, pertaining to mechanical integrity, calibrations, certifications and compliance including but not limited to:
Annual steam boiler inspection and certification
Deaerator Inspections
Rental equipment
Ammonia System PSM audits
Leads efforts to continuously improve maintenance operations including preventative maintenance optimization, downtime reduction, and the development of maintenance key performance indicators.
Responsible for maintenance spare parts inventory management, maintenance spend and budgeting. This includes parts ordering and agreements with contractors and vendors.
Actively participates and effectively communicates with all levels of the organization including the plant leadership team.
Maintains accurate records ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements including environmental, safety, and food safety.
All other duties as may be assigned.
JOB EXPERIENCE :
At least 8 years' experience in maintenance and/or engineering in a production/warehousing environment.
Leadership experience leading a team of direct reports strongly preferred.
Previous experience on packaging lines and associated equipment with a strong background in human safety program compliance.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Strong mechanical, electrical, trades and planning aptitude.
Troubleshoot, teach, and mentor others through mechanical, electrical and other technical issues.
Knowledge of food manufacturing, FDA/USDA, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
Continuous improvement mind-set with the ability to support multiple projects.
Strong decision-making skills with the ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
Excellent interpersonal skills in the areas of teamwork, motivation, relationship building, and coaching.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Computer skills including Central Maintenance Management Software and purchasing software.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's or Associate degree, program certificate, or a combination of education and work experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Standing, walking, using hands and arms to feel and reach.
Ability to walk up and down stairs and ramps.
Ability to climb ladders.
Regularly or routinely lifting or handling boxes/bags/equipment up to 50 lbs.
Routinely bending, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
Regularly pushing or pulling sizeable equipment from a standing position.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Use of personal protective equipment including respirators, hearing protection, eye protection, and head protection.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to work in refrigerated areas at times (< 10F)
Must be able to work in a dusty, cold, hot, humid, wet, loud, or outdoor work environment depending on the assigned work area.
Primarily works in a production and/or Maintenance environment with some administrative duties.
