Senior Director, Insurance Optimization Services - Health & Welfare (H&W) Project Manager

Alvarez & Marsal is seeking to expand its Insurance Optimization Services (IOS) team in the U.S. with a Senior Director or Director to lead client projects.

The Director/Senior Director will have insurance industry experience and/or a consulting background in the insurance industry and will specialize in helping execute business strategy through implementation. If you have a passion for tackling complex, heart-of-the-business issues, A&M will provide a challenging environment in which to apply and grow your skills. The candidate will provide technical project management, business process redesign, analytical support, and strategic services in a C-suite advisory/consulting environment.

Professional Experience:


  • Extensive insurance experience (10-15+ years) either as a practitioner with a (re)insurer or as a consultant to the insurance industry

  • Prior experience with a preference for significant experience as a benefits manager or consultant providing similar services

  • Improving the performance in a Health & Welfare (H&W) department, reducing total cost of risk, determining appropriate levels of coverage/cost, and working with alternative risk transfer structures such as captives or capital markets

  • Review experience with a broad spectrum of Health & Welfare (H&W) coverages, including workers compensation, liability, and directors & officers


  • Health & Welfare (H&W) vendor performance management (brokers, TPAs, consultants)

  • Familiarity with enterprise risk management (ERM) implementation and frameworks (ISO 3100, COSO)

  • Experience utilizing risk tools (actuarial and benchmarking)

  • Leading an organization through change

  • Experience in leading projects in the insurance industry-specifically Health & Welfare (H&W)-in leading transformation change

  • Direct responsibility for customer management, sales, and contract negotiations

  • Emphasis on core insurance operations (distribution/claims/policy management/underwriting) and performance/process improvement

  • Deep analytical skills

  • Significant experience in large-scale transactions

  • Experience managing vendor performance (brokers, third-party administrators, actuaries, and other consultants)

  • Licensed Broker/Advisor, MBA preferred, but not mandatory

Specific responsibilities will include:


  • Lead project management of complex projects and work streams, including the management of staff practitioners

  • Support clients' most strategic business transformation projects, including assessments, analysis and business case development, RFP development and compensation and networking, process redesign, program implementation, and change management

  • Client relationship management and engagement leadership

  • Strong insurance marketplace relationships

  • Flexibility with respect to travel

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in insurance/property casualty/benefits/risk management, business administration, or other relevant degree with a preference for advanced education including MBA, JD, or other

  • Fifteen years of previous related Health & Welfare (H&W), insurance brokerage, underwriting, and coverage or consulting licensed broker/advisor, CPA, or MBA preferred, but not mandatory

  • Strong insurance marketplace relationships

  • Flexibility with respect to travel

Travel and Hybrid Working:

Roles at A&M may involve travel for project needs, training, internal meetings, and other opportunities. We also offer hybrid working opportunities that may vary by country and/or region.

Compensation Statement:

The salary range is $150,000 - $250,000 annually, dependent on several variables, including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program that is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.

Regular employees working 30 or more hours per week are also entitled to participate in Alvarez & Marsal Holdings' fringe benefits, consisting of healthcare plans, flexible spending and savings accounts, life, AD&D, and disability coverages at rates determined from time to time, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan. Provided the eligibility requirements are met, employees will also receive a discretionary contribution to their 401(k) from Alvarez & Marsal. Additionally, employees are eligible for paid time off, including vacation, personal days, seventy-two (72) hours of sick time (prorated for part-time employees), ten federal holidays, one floating holiday, and parental leave.
