DESCRIPTION

As part of Michael Baker International's growing Construction Services Practice, the Resident Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Rail & Transit market in Philadelphia, PA, primarily for local rail and transit clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for on-site overall management and direction of assigned rail and transit construction projects across the Philadelphia Region.

This is an opportunity to grow and develop and work on a diverse group of rail and transit projects in construction and program management services. This individual is tasked with leading construction services projects to which they are assigned and working closely with clients on project sites to coordinate and execute construction projects. The Resident Engineer will work on a broad range of projects with an emphasis on passenger rail and transit in the Philadelphia Region and work closely with clients to develop strong relationships in construction delivery.

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Oversee capital construction projects for transportation rail and transit projects including rail and transit agencies.
  • Evaluate and review contract documents, work plans, schedules, phasing plans submitted by contractors.
  • Develop staffing plans and assemble members of a construction organization if needed.
  • Work closely with client project staff.
  • Verify appropriate project documentation.
  • Prepare complex correspondence.
  • Lead regular project progress meetings with contractor and client.
  • Oversee work in progress to ensure that workmanship, conforms with specifications and plans, adherence to schedule.
  • Prepare or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjustments to work schedules.
  • Provide management, inspection, field engineering, technical advisement for issues related to the construction of the assigned project.
  • Coordinate work with contractors and owners, other government agencies as might be required.
  • Manage project documentation such as RFIs, Submittals, Site Specific Work Plans, Phasing Plans, Contractor Staging Plans, Quality Control Documents, PCOs, COs, etc.
  • Support client in development of change order scopes of work and / or cost estimates.
  • Verify construction activities within federal, state, and local rules and regulations.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 10-15 years of experience in the construction management profession.

    • Rail and Transit capital construction experience preferred (but not required).
    • Strong background in capital construction management with engineering degree may be valued over rail and transit experience.

  • Professional Engineers license required; PA License Preferred
  • Must have effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide range of technical specialists, clients, and public officials.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a collaborative manner with a diverse group will be professionals on construction projects.
  • Review, monitor, and understand engineering design and operational information, and to present and review this information with staff, management, and clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in Scheduling (P6, CPM Scheduling, etc.)
  • Aptitude for communicating with owner / client staff, contractors, and subconsultants.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)

COMPENSATION
The approximate compensation range for this position is $115,478- $200,051 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
