The University of Miami UHealth System, Department of Radiology, currently has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time CAT Scan Technologist 2 to work in Miami. The CAT Scan Technologist 2 is responsible for performing complex procedures in CT Scan through the operations of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality of diagnostic images with the least amount of radiation exposure. Independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areas, procedures and equipment. Assist with the day-to-day operations in the absence of modality Chief Technologist.
CORE DUTIES
Reviews CT Scan order for appropriateness based on protocol to diagnosis and any additional physician comments.
Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician's office for correct orders if necessary.
Verify the patient's ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient's wrist band, maintaining accurate patient records.
Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist.
Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients or family members, obtains necessary consents, and provides exam education.
Performs complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age-appropriate standards of practice.
Integrates diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary.
Adheres to CT protocols to maintain high quality ultrasound standards.
Assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.
Evaluates CT scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label.
Film/transmit to PACS. Reports unusual findings in a timely manner to appropriate Radiologist/Supervisory personnel.
Dispenses oral contrast to patients for scans and/or load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
Provides assistance with orientation, training and education of students and new technologists, acting in a team leader capacity on a routine basis.
Demonstrates equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators and provides in-service classes in section.
Participates in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
Performs basic nursing functions in the patient's care.
Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary; assists in "Code Blue" procedure during medical emergencies.
Performs CPR as needed.
Assists radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and CAT Scan imaging techniques that are unique to facility.
Monitors charging of procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
