We are looking for a strong candidate to join our System Hardware Verification & Validationdteam as a Test Development Technician. The successful candidate has worked with manual test equipment (tensile tester, LCR meters, controlled water baths, pressure test setups, etc.) and has experience developing and executing mechanical tests. He or she will help in the development of mechanical tests (including test fixturing, test method development / documentation, and test method validation) executing the approved method in support of new product verification. General mechanical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot with minimal guidance is essential.

Micro Systems Engineering's System Hardware Verification & Validation Group is a critical element in a global effort to develop highly reliable medical devices. The position requires an assertive candidate with excellent computer and communication skills, strong safety awareness, and strong technical skills.

Your Responsibilities


  • Develop mechanical test methods in accordance with internal procedures:

    • Mechanical / electrical fixture design and construction
    • Creation of test work instructions.
    • Conduct test method validations as necessary to ensure adequacy of proposed methodology.
    • Perform IQ/OQ/PQ on new equipment as required.
  • Set up and operate qualified manual and automated test equipment.
  • Perform moderately complex mechanical testing to approved protocols on verification samples with limited supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records and be responsible for quality documentation without error.
  • Provide written (MS Word) and verbal summaries of process, design, and component issues encountered during development.
  • Notify management of any conditions felt as being undesirable or nonconforming to test specification and any procedures that cannot be performed as documented.
  • Responsible for first-level troubleshooting, equipment recoveries and repairs that are commensurate with applicant's level of expertise, training, and latitude provided by development engineering.
  • Assist with 3D printer support and maintenance.
  • Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of the manager.

Your Profile

Education / Experience Requirements


  • 2+ years of experience in the line of mechanical test development, test validation, and test execution preferred.
  • Knowledge of tensile tester programming / specimen attachment method strongly desired.
  • Successful operator of manual construction methods (drills, presses, mill, lathe, saws, etc.) to support construction of prototype fixturing.
  • General awareness of test method validation / measurement system analysis concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in basic computer applications such as MS Word & Excel.
  • Solidworks design experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of 3D printing desired.
  • Ability to solder and laser weld desired.
  • Independently make important decisions regarding escalation or troubleshooting issues.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Must demonstrate the ability to learn to navigate in custom developed computer applications.
  • Must possess specific vision abilities required including close vision and distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have high attention to detail.
  • Associate's degree preferred.

Work Location: The location for this position is onsite, and will work out of our Lake Oswego, OR Office
