About the Department



The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology studies how biomolecules function and interact to drive the complex, diverse, and adaptive behaviors of living systems. Our focus is on biological mechanisms described at the atomic level. We are highly collaboratory and often employ multiple approaches to address otherwise intractable questions. We have particular strengths in membrane proteins and RNA biochemistry and are pioneers in all areas of biophysics, structural biology, biochemistry, and protein engineering and design. Job Summary



The Research Professional, Analyst will be working in the execution and documentation of experiments that include the design of primers and DNA constructs, DNA cloning, protein expression and purification, structure determination, and analysis and simulation of protein structures. Duties also include, but are not limited to preparing presentations, posters, and reports and helping with laboratory tasks. The Research Professional, Analyst will have expert knowledge of processes and/or tools required for the role and will help train other group members.



Responsibilities



  • Design of primers and DNA constructs, DNA cloning.


  • Protein expression and purification, structure determination.


  • Use of biophysical techniques to characterize proteins.


  • Build molecular systems for simulation.


  • Analysis and simulation of protein structures.


  • Prepare presentations, posters, reports.


  • Train group members on experimental and computational techniques.


  • Help with laboratory tasks, including writing grant applications and managing computer time allocations.


  • Performs experiments and collects and analyzes data. Participates in the promotion of a research project.


  • Participates in the preparation and writing of grant applications and reports, and co-authors/authors scientific research manuscripts. Provides peer review of grant applications and scientific manuscripts.


  • Collaborates on development of new research projects with academic and community-based organizations.


  • May present work at scientific meetings.


  • Performs other related work as needed.

Experience:



  • 1 year of relevant experience.


  • Experience in biochemical and biophysical characterization of proteins.


  • Experience in molecular dynamics simulations.
