Position Overview:
The Environmental Manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining environmental programs to ensure that all work performed is in compliance with company, industry, government and other applicable environmental standards and regulations. Provides management in support of projects associated with above and underground storage tanks, hazardous materials / waste, asbestos, lead, PCB, potable water / wastewater, and other environmental issues. Provides management, oversight, and direction associated with emergency response to hazardous waste and hazardous materials releases, cleanup, and remediation.
Job Responsibilities:
Actively supports company and project Safety, Health and Environmental (SH&E) programs. Develops and implements environmental policies and programs regarding environmental planning, monitoring, reporting and analyzing of related data.
Ensure that hazardous and non-hazardous wastes generated by project activities are managed in accordance with the facility waste management policies, federal, state, and local regulations.
Provides environmental training for proper hazardous material and waste handling and spill response procedures pursuant to 49 CFR Parts 171-177, 29 CFR, and 40 CFR.
Provides direction, oversight, and reporting procedures for releases of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in accordance with 40 CFR 82.
Interprets and implements environmental laws and regulations. Ensures compliance with governmental environmental standards and regulations.
Investigates environmental issues in area(s) of responsibility such as asbestos, mold, and spills; writes report indicating cause and alternatives for corrective action. Coordinates spill cleanups and remediation requirements.
Writes scopes of work, estimates cost, and solicits quotes for subcontractors to perform environmental work; provides project management and technical oversight for the same.
Develops and provides training on a variety of environmental topics.
Serves as liaison and consultant between project personnel and government personnel on environmental policies and regulations.
Responsible for planning, submitting, executing, and adherence to approved annual environmental shop operating budget, to include proper allocation of resources and control of overtime/premium pay.
Participates fully in advancement of project process improvements, development and refinement of Business Processes (BP's), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Process Improvements (PI's).
Recognizes the primary principle of "customer satisfaction". Interfaces with the customer to ascertain customer needs and level of satisfaction. Constantly evaluates and adjusts priorities.
Performs duties and responsibilities, which are common to most supervisory personnel.
Answers job-related technical inquiries from customers in timely manner.
Communicates routinely with customer on status of work/project progress.
Participates in meetings and conducts various administration duties.
Investigates and responds to customer complaints about employee and/or service quality.
Qualifications/Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology, environmental, or related discipline highly desired.
Minimum 5 years' experience associated with hazardous waste management, stormwater pollution prevention, water/wastewater treatment, and experience with environmental compliance programs.
Previous Government experience preferred.
Previous CMMS work order management experience.
Skills:
Extensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDEP, applicable environmental regulatory laws, and general engineering principles.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, to include clear, concise, and professional presentation of information.
Computer skills including advanced use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Certificate/License/Registrations:
Valid Driver's License
40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations per 29 CFR 1910.120 (mandatory)
8-hour Site Supervisor for Hazardous Waste Operations per 29 CFR 1910.120 (mandatory)
8-hour Incident Commander for Emergency Response per 29 CFR 1910.120 (desired)
16 hours DOT training for Hazardous Materials in Transportation per 49 CFR 173.2 (desired)
STI-SP001 Inspectors Certification for ASTs (desired)
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Performance of the required job duties will include various weather conditions.
Responsible for driving between contract project sites as required.
Ability to walk terrain and surfaces that may be far, uneven, or temporary.
Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear.
Ability to frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
Ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, squat, or reach.
Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
