Job Description

Hoefer Welker is looking for a Senior Project Manager and Commercial Studio lead. The ideal candidate is someone who has a track record of success in engaging both current and new clients and has contacts within the Kansas City design community. This person will manage and work to create detailed designs, plans, and specifications for commercial work. They will work directly with clients to formulate project approach and develop detailed project scopes that meet the client's expectations. This person is responsible for running, developing and continually growing a team as well as hiring mentoring and helping create and build a successful and positive team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and pursues potential client/project opportunities and is accountable for the success of those pursuits.
  • Operates to target desirable clients, choreographs our pursuit of these clients, forms positive relationships with key decision makers to position us for future selection.
  • Commercial market sector subject matter expert in the building type science, program and budgets, as well as consultant teaming, scope of services and fees.
  • Assists with determining the strategic plan for pursuit of client and/or project.
  • Ensures that post-proposal debriefs occur and that information is distributed.
  • Serves as a constant vocal advocate for the client and external perspectives in the execution of our business.
  • Follows the competition, what they are doing, what is working for them and what is not.
  • Continuously cultivates and maintains positive relationships with sources for lead generation (A/Es, consultants, RE execs, trade associations, etc.) and coordinates the office-wide cultivation of ally relationships.
  • Stays in frequent contact with new, existing and past clients to uncover opportunities; acts as a sounding board with respect to our performance and as a lead generation activity.
  • Actively participates in target client industry trade associations and strategic community and industry activities for lead generation and visibility of the company.
  • Direct responsibility for certain potential clients and project opportunities; assists other members of the team in keeping commitments with the potential clients/projects.
  • Facilitates the celebration of all sales successes/wins in a timely and enthusiastic manner and ensures that adequate recognition is given to all sales pursuit team members.
  • Develops annual business plan focusing on revenue, staffing, and development goals.
  • Maintains prospect information/tracking data and provides input to other company pipeline and conversion systems.
  • Attends regular sales and studio performance meetings to maintain accountability; coordinates Sales activity; sets priorities and measures progress against plan.
  • Knows and measures the capabilities and performance of the competitors the target market(s)
  • Leads or assists with development and production of qualifications, proposals and presentations including coaching of presentation teams.
  • Reports to principal in charge any observations made in the marketplace that may represent areas for improvement or opportunities for new strategic initiatives by the Company.

Job Requiremetns

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Construction or Business Administration or equivalent in education or experience, Master’s degree preferred. Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in business development and client management in architectural industry.


Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Architectural registration required with current license, NCARB registration preferred. LEED Green Associate Accreditation desired. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and willingness to use insured personal vehicle in the courses of employment.

Qualifications/Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD or Revit, NewForma, and Microsoft Office preferred. Deltek Vantagepoint. Must have excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, ability to work effectively in a team atmosphere, meet deadlines, and have knowledge of design, trends, and construction methodology.
