The Role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, highly skilled, hard-working, full-time Research Assistant / Associate to join our team at Texas Biomedical Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. Our Lab is focusing on the earlier phase of HIV and/or TB transmission, the host and pathogen interactions, the generation of specific immune responses and, the development of novel vaccines using the Nonhuman Primate Model. The successful applicant will perform and support projects developing and testing novel vaccines, investigating host humoral and cellular immune responses, and conducting investigations into the immunopathogenesis and disease progression. The successful applicant will perform scientific research, assist with day-to-day data management and record, set up and operate equipment as required by research tasks. Furthermore, the selected candidate will work as a team player in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment using cutting-edge methods to understand the pathogen-host interactions and correlate(s) of protection. This position will report to Dr. Marie-Claire Gauduin.

Education/Experience/Skills:

Required: Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or fields related to Microbiology and Immunology from an accredited college or university with major course work in molecular virology and infectious diseases. At least three years Laboratory bench research experience and strong background in molecular biology, immunology, and cell imaging. Experience working under BSL-2 (bio-safety level 2) and/or (BSL-3) environment. Experience with cellular immunology techniques from cell isolation and tissue cultures to ELISPOT, ELISA, and flow cytometry assays. Experience in neutralization assays and basic molecular biological techniques such as isolation of RNA, DNA, and RT-PCR. Utilization of computer programs (MAC and/or PC). Preferred: Master's degree in biology, microbiology, immunology or virology with two years of research experience. Hard working with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and a desire for accuracy. Experience with multicolor flow cytometry, intracellular cytokine assays, neutralizing antibody techniques, characterization of the phenotype and function of T cells. Experience working in human or non-human primate research will be a plus.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs scientific research tasks and operates equipment as required by research tasks.

• Relevant research experience preferred though full training will be given to the right candidate.

• Evaluates, selects, and applies standard scientific techniques.

• Generates, records and compiles research data.

• Assists with the tracking of frozen tissue samples in the database, and freezer inventories.

• Function as part of the team contributing to the lab activities.

• Attends and presents at laboratory meetings.
