Salary Description: $120,000 - $150,000 / year

This contract provides O&M for Range Support Crafts (RSC) vessels home ported at Naval Base Point Loma (NBPL). The RSCs provide fleet training support for the Southern California Tactical Training Range (SCTTR) in the San Clemente Island Range Complex (SCIRC) W-291 area.


At NBPL, SA-TECH is seeking to hire a Port Engineer based out of Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego, CA who will participate in and provide support, including project planning, maintenance oversight, maintenance costs monitoring, vessel maintenance schedule and lifecycle data management.


Specific duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Responsible for all vessel maintenance planning, coordination and activities
  • Performs planning and coordination for maintenance/depot activities on all vessels
  • Participates in maintenance planning meetings with internal and external personnel and monthly Government progress meetings
  • Oversees vessel engineering department performance, and maintenance and repairs on all vessels
  • Plans repairs, inspections, and certifications of all shipboard equipment
  • Coordinates with Government for Depot level maintenance and vessel/system modifications and updates maintenance calendars and vessel lifecycle planning information
  • Reviews vessel maintenance logs and provides equipment status updates to Government as requested
  • Oversees safety programs
  • Assists Supply Technician with procurement process as needed.
  • Assumes duties of Port Captain in his absence.

Work Conditions:

  • Will work ashore and may work afloat on the RSC vessels
  • Overtime is required
  • Has an assigned office but may work in a variety of weather conditions on the vessels
  • Normal shipyard physical activity is required
Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED required (Preferred Master's degree in Business Management or Engineering)
  • USCG Licensed as DDE Any HP or greater (Preferred USCG Chief Engineer Limited or greater)
  • Valid medical certificate
  • Five (5) years as Port Engineer or related shoreside maintenance position (Preferred 10 years as Port Engineer or related shoreside maintenance position)
  • Five (5) years previous experience as a Chief Engineer onboard comparable vessels (Preferred 10 years previous experience as a Chief Engineer onboard comparable vessels)
  • Previous experience with vessel operations and maintenance, managing personnel, program management
  • Technical writing skills to assist in documenting new manufacturing and/or assembling instructions for new designs developed in-house.
  • A demonstrable ability to read and understand schematic drawings.
  • Proven ability to independently plan and support management efforts, including timelines, cost estimates (requiring parts, equipment and labor), shipping and travel arrangements and detailed coordination with the Depot and customer.
  • Experience in a military environment as an E-7 or above or experience working with the military on a military facility is preferred.
  • Expert level understanding of all Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds (lbs).
  • Current Driver's License required; must be able to be insured through company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and maintain a SECRET clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
