Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

Under general direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Risk Management is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the Enterprise Risk Management function and for managing the University's Risk Management program, which includes All-Lines Insurance program management, worker's compensation and liability claims administration, regulatory compliance, reporting, and property & casualty fund management.


Essential Duties Summary:



  • Lead the overall strategy and direct higher education risk management activities for all University operations, including but not limited to the development and implementation of loss control measures and risk management best practices, establishing policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, University personnel practices and policies, and state, federal and University statutes.

  • Identify, evaluate, measure and report on the University's risk exposures. Provide risk assessments of new and emerging risk areas for the University, including major strategic initiatives, programs, and partnerships. Recommend control, transfer and mitigation alternatives. Assess the effectiveness and oversee program changes and enhancements.

  • Collaborate with consultants, third-party vendors, and key stakeholders to manage the University's insurance program, including policy procurement, monitoring market trends in the risk management community, make recommendations, initiate new programs, practices and techniques for continuous improvement and align with University objectives and the changing needs of the organization.

  • Implement measures to ensure the University is maximizing risk controls and risk transfer and minimizing risk exposures through the University's contract insurance requirements, including recommending types of insurance coverage necessary to protect the University's interests.

  • Direct, manage and provide leadership for activities related to incident reporting, claims administration, subrogation, health and safety engagement, prevention practices and University-wide risk management training. Hire, supervise, train, evaluate, set priorities for, and coordinate risk management staff activities, to include developing work plans, goals and objectives.

  • Compile statistical data and prepare reports on risk management-related activities, establish and manage risk management practices and awareness, and facilitate preparation of the University's annual reports related to Total Cost of Risk.

  • Assist with department budget preparation and management by reviewing and approving risk management revenue and expenditures for loss subrogation, claims payments, insurance policy procurement, safety-related training, and safety equipment purchase and supplies such as personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

$73,417.00 - $91,771.00


Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, or related field, from an accredited college or university.


Required Licensing/Certification:

State of Texas Risk Management LicenseState of Texas All-Lines Adjuster License
Associate in Risk Management (ARM) Certification preferred



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Knowledge of:


  • Policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Relevant laws, regulations, and risk management practices.

  • Insurance lines of coverage, risk financing techniques, casualty insurance policies, and insurance policy negotiating and purchasing.

  • Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, compliance and procedures.

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application.

Work Experience:

At least five (5) years of responsible Risk Management Administration experience, including supervisory/leadership responsibilities.
