Job Description:
Job Duties: Supervise fisheries management related activities in the Northwest District. Guide planning, implementation and completion of fish population surveys and habitat assessments. Coordinate and collaborate on fish renovation, aquatic habitat, angler access, motorboat access, broodstock collection, fish stocking, and research projects on district waters. Utilize data collections to develop management plans and provide amendment recommendations for fisheries regulations/orders. Develop and oversee projects to evaluate management strategy implementations (stocking, regulation change, habitat manipulation, etc.). Supervise temporary and permanent staff both on-site and remotely located. Develop staff priorities, performance objectives and goals. Develop reports and maintain records necessary for compliance with federal aid guidelines. Oversee inventory and maintenance of district equipment, boats and vehicles. Coordinate other activities with division staff, other agency divisions, and partner agencies, including fish kill investigations, aquatic invasive species monitoring and control, education/outreach, reservoir operations, land reconnaissance, law enforcement, etc. Promote division activities and provide information to various conservations agencies, resource-oriented groups and the public. Establish and maintain professional relationships with government agencies and natural resource entities and groups. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field of biological science or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND four years' experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND two years' experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field. Other: Driver's license required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Extensive knowledge of fisheries management principles, aquatic habitat conservation and enhancement, fish species, life histories and habitat requirements. Basic knowledge of conservation statutes, regulations, and orders as they relate to fisheries management. Skills in leadership and mentoring, organization, problem solving and critical thinking. Ability to supervise and direct the work of others, set goals and objectives, plan and prioritize work schedules, communicate effectively and multi-task. Ability to also perform technical skills and endure harsh weather conditions while performing field duties: operate boats, motors, scientific sampling gear (nets and electrofishing equipment).
