Job Summary



Indiana University (IU) Human Resources seeks a director to provide expertise in the development and implementation of HR strategies and associated workflow in support of IU's research mission. The director will play a critical, ongoing role in designing, initiating and leading HR services to meet the evolving needs of IU Research staff, supporting researchers to meet the IU 2030 Strategic Plan Pillar 2 goals and metrics. This position will be a member of the University Human Resources Office, reporting jointly to the Vice President for Research and serving as a member of the IU Research Senior Leadership Team.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Partners with IU Research leaders to help design and execute high-level recruitment, retention, and onboarding practices.

  • Fosters a culture of customer service with an ongoing emphasis on continuous quality improvement.

  • Oversees performance evaluations, and collaborates closely with the University Budget Office team that supports IU Research.

  • Manages the HR team that supports IU Research, overseeing execution of associated workflow supporting the approximately 750 full- and part-time employees who provide core services and/or infrastructure for faculty researchers across all IU campuses and those who lead and work for designated centrally administered research centers, institutes, museums and service center/facilities (CIMS).

  • Works as an embedded HR professional within IU Research to provide leadership, direction and expertise in developing and implementing human resources strategies.

  • Ensures alignment with the overall mission, strategic goals, and objectives of the University and IU Research.

  • Promotes, manages, and implements all human resources activities for IU Research, directs staff in these activities, and acts as liaison to the University Human Resources Office.

General Responsibilities


  • Develops, motivates and leads a highly effective HR team that delivers value to IU Research with expert recruiting, talent and development, succession planning and other human capital activities.

  • Partners directly with HR leadership and IU Research leadership to develop and implement HR strategies. Provides strategic HR oversight to specified client groups, acting as a trusted adviser to leadership.

  • Acts as a primary point of contact for senior leaders, providing expertise and guidance in the areas of organizational performance, culture, and change.

  • Coaches leaders on leadership behaviors and practices focusing on development and performance strategies to promote engagement and a culture of continuous growth and development.

  • Leads key HR processes and initiatives, leveraging and partnering with COE's.

  • Provides strategic HR consulting and problem-solving solutions on the most complex issues to leadership.

  • Partners to create and ensure an environment of diversity and inclusion.

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business or related field


Preferred


Master's degree in related field


WORK EXPERIENCE


Required


5 years progressively responsible HR or related experience influencing a wide variety of internal stakeholders.
2 years of management experience Management experience in HR or related functions

  • Service orientation: ability to multi-task, prioritize real-time, and operate with a sense of accountability to include urgency and responsiveness as appropriate

  • Strategically minded: proactive, creative and adaptable to implement change

  • Communication skills: ability to listen and translate operational needs; patient leader of consensus building when needed




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

$102,500 - $112,500 based on experience and qualifications
