One of the first human genetics departments in the country, the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at IU School of Medicine has a rich history of training geneticists and genetic counselors and providing genetic consultation and counseling services. Currently ranked 5th in the nation among Genetics Departments for NIH Funding, received in 2023, the department contributes to the understanding of numerous genetic conditions through the integration of basic research in genetic and genomic mechanisms, translational research in disease models, and clinical trials in rare and common genetic diseases.
Job Summary
This position will operate under the Distribution Project Manager
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Coordinates sample requests and related processing of samples for distributions from Indiana University Genetics Biobank (IUGB) Lab.
Works with the project staff to determine distribution requirements from multiple studies.
Works with IT to develop distributions lists from the LIMS.
Works with the laboratory distribution staff to prepare and finalize samples for distribution.
Sends email communications to sample distribution recipients.
Invoices for all sample requests; Ensures accuracy of charges and verify receipt of invoice with accounting staff.
General Responsibilities
Performs specialized laboratory services related to specimen preparation, processing, storage and data entry according to defined standard operating procedures.
Tracks samples for distributions, reviews sample documentation, and confirms sample labeling/identification.
Maintains databases for sample requests; Runs daily reports, enters data into the databases, performs validation checks and pursues resolutions to erroneous data. Runs quality control reports for accuracy of data entry and completeness of sample distributions. Develops queries and produces reports in response to data inquiries.
Assists in the improvement, design, and implementation of new standard operating procedures.
Maintains subject-matter knowledge through familiarity of clinical literature and/or attending continuing education classes, conferences, seminars, and project team meetings.
Prepares samples for shipment to local, domestic, and international destinations.

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
Bachelor's degree in science or health-related field with 1 year of laboratory experience; OR
Associate's degree in science or health-related field with 3 years of laboratory experience

Working Conditions / Demands
The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
Advertised Salary
$46,322.64 - $51,322.64 per year based on experience and internal equity within the department.
